The Power of Habit : Why we do what we do in life and business by Charles Duhigg

I am not one to rave about books, but this is really good reading. The chapter detailing the habit loop (cue, routine, reward) is fascinating and learning how marketers at Procter and Gamble used it is well worth the price of the book alone.

Buy this shit yo! [ame=http://www.amazon.com/Power-Habit-What-Life-Business/dp/1400069289]Amazon.com: The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business (9781400069286): Charles Duhigg: Books[/ame]

If you're not going to read it right through right away - at least read Chapter 3, "The Golden Rule of Habit Change - Why Transformation Occurs" - IDEALY THOUGH - Read from the start and complete Chapter 3.

THEN - jump to the APPENDIX - "A Reader's Guide to Using These Ideas" - that should get you started. Then go back and finish the book!

The book is easy to read and most of the information you have seen before. So there are a lot of examples/anecdotes (PADDING!) in this book and they don't necessarily detract from the message being delivered. Although, this is not the be-all-end-all book on habits - it's a very good resource to add to your collection. It's not necessarily a "change your habit" type of book - there are others that explain that better - it's more of a book on why and how habits occur in our lives and in business.

Well, especially in business, where you creating habits in customers and employees is important to how the business operates. You'll see how companies have created habits that have "made" consumers think of their product or service over someone else's. This is the gem that this book aims to deliver. Plus, you'll see things that maybe can improve your life or business (not necessarily how to go about it) and it will lead to further discussions with the people you live with or work with.

Sometimes I wonder if my daily routine is just habit or crazy OCD. I never really thought about how it would apply to marketing but may have to check this out. I always like to stay up to date on the latest trends.

thanks for the recommendation, with review from Jim Collins and David Allan its a must, will get it probably in the next order.

My inclination after making it a good way through the book is that OCD is probably very much a habit. Obviously there's another component that makes severe OCD an actual disorder, but the book has me looking at my own bad habits much differently.

Was going to read, then saw this quote in one of the reviews

All of these stories are amazing - the woman who gave up smoking, the U.S. major who realized that Kebab vendors were the key to Iraq violence

huh?

An anecdotal story about mobs getting violent after being assembled for hours and inciting one another, needing to eat to refuel and then rioting etc.

The officer disrupted a habit pattern and the rioting stopped.

Not as fucked up as it seems when you read it.

i have the audio book for

Willpower Rediscovering the Greatest Human Strength by Roy F. Baumeister and John Tierney

and im really enjoying it thusfar

So I have been reading this book for the last three hours.

Damn...I have read Mastery - The Keys to Success and Long Term Fullfilment and Willpower - Rediscovering the Greatest Human Strength both very good books when it comes to accomplishing what you want.

This book is on another level. Its pretty much explains why things I have tried and succeeded worked and why things I have tried and failed did not work.

It even explains why sometimes you will do something for a month or two and then revert back to old habits...

This book rocks....book notes to come when I finish the book. Probably a few more days.

:ak::ak::ak::ak:

Crowds gathered to start riots, but the majors quickly realized if they banned street vendors selling food, people in the crowds grew hungry and left the mob and prevented the riots.

Oh man.. the question of the century.

Already downloaded book... Do I read it? I hate reading... Why not just wait for Niko's badass cliff notes... but isn't that why I should be reading this book so I stop being a lazy bastard?

What to do.

Oh well time to go play video games.
