The Profit, entrepreneur business turnaround show on CNBC

What I was trying to get across in my last post was that most of the people running these businesses (for example the president of the toy company that produced Aero Flix) don't come off as the sort to voluntarily say "yes, I am over my head".

I think it was the butchers where it was the office manager who actually did the submission and I recall in a few of these shows (and kitchen nightmares too) it wasn't always the owner asking for help but those affected by the failures.

In some situations the owner thinks the problem is elsewhere: everything they are doing is perfect (based on personality) but they are still losing money, help me find out why!

Also, I'm sure there is some correlation between a severely failing business and the personality of the owner.

In the trailer episode the lady flips out about not "knowing" that her partner reached out to the show, but when they walk outside they slip and she mentions she spoke to her sister about Marcus, how he is single but he would have 3 kids....

You guys are funny. These stupid shows are not anymore real then garbage like jerry spring and survivor.

"I think it was the butchers where it was the office manager who actually did the submission and I recall in a few of these shows (and kitchen nightmares too) it wasn't always the owner asking for help but those affected by the failures."

Think about that for a second. If you owned a business, and you were bat shit crazy, and found out one of your employees, family or not, signed you up to a stupid reality show, would you really agree to be filmed and go along with it?

You know what I would do? I would tell the camera crew to get the fuck out of my place of business and then I would fire whoever it was that invited them there.

It's all BS.

Then you'd be out of business. That butcher was a few weeks away from bankruptcy. It's not all BS. Lemonis makes real investments. That florist owed him about $100k after the show. The owners' mom finally paid Lemonis back after the online rage.

My bad I had no idea you were there for the filming of the show.

It's not that it's all bullshit, but it is misleading. Then again, that's what reality TV is supposed to be.

Take Kitchen NIghtmares... look at what the show drops into the average restaurant. You have all the marketing from just the airing of the episode, plus they usually do a marketing campaign around the city, maybe get the mayor, some food critics, a pro sports team or whoever in there. Plus they usually renovate the place inside and out, install new kitchen equipment, professional chefs to redo the menu, replace the old food in the kitchen with fresh daily bought stuff, maybe hire a chef or two to stick around for a month or three afterwards, etc.

By the end of each show, they've probably dropped a good $200k into each restaurant. If I owned a small restaurant and was struggling to just stay alive any pay the monthly bills, then all of a sudden had $200k and a team of world renowned professionals dropped into my lap, I would imagine I'd be able to turn it around too. At least long enough to make it look good on TV.

I mean, it'd be pretty difficult to fuck that up. Small family owned business, cash injection of $200k in a week, you should be able to at least give off the appearance of success for a month or so.

I cant believe this guy spends his money and time on these shitty businesses... It's insane.

He obviously has business skills and he obviously has money... when you have both you dont need to deal with retards.

There are way better businesses and people to invest in especially since you're not only investing money but your time. There's a reason why these businesses are failing... the owners are morons... why on earth would you want to be in business with them?

proof of concept and ability to execute the right strategy is all you need... and you can buy both a business with proof of concept and the proper talent to execute the right strategy.

Sorry but you don't know what you are talking about. Turnaround is MASSIVE profits for people who know what they are doing. You have so much stuff there that has value and can be leveraged its unreal e.g. branding, staff etc.

This show is retarded... the real business model here is to find some poorly managed businesses ran by confrontational peasants that end up making a scene every 5 minutes to get those reality TV viewers.

It's really not...
You can't get good deals with successful business owners unless you go after young people but then you are gambling a different gamble.

You can be a moron and be very successful if steered in the right direction. I see it all the time.

Marcus is very smart for doing this. Even if he losses a couple Mil over the life of this show (which I highly doubt he will do), his exposure nationally will be worth 100X that much. Not sure what his endgame is but this show will get him there much quicker.

This show is a lot more relatable than the restaurant shows which often have industry specific advice and structure. This generalize approach shows how easy it is to build your strategy off: people, process, product.

You're the star of your own TV show. That alone is enough reason to take the job.

The latest episode is sweet! The candymaker's business partner was a candy ass, so Lemonis figured out how to reduce is equity from 50% to practically zilch! :action-smiley-052:

Hey c'mon bro that business partner worked hard. He put in $2,000, hung the business sign, and gave the candy guy the privilege of leasing his building.

Still watching. I loved that one, too. Something fishy was going on at that place!

Is it common to make out like a bandit with commercial insurance payouts for burned down buildings?

That one got a lot of attention and the owner's have a statement on their website about it. Of course they'd defend themselves, right? Well some reddit sleuths pretty much showed the producers are just playing silly buggers and the public records mentioned in the episode actually catches the producers out.

yeah that made the episode even better, the daughter (who's smoking hot, always a nice plus to have hot women to look at in reality shows) posted a rebuttal on the site:
