The Tonedeaf Test

100%. I have perfect pitch, have played in an orchestra for 6+ years and band 10+, compose/arrange and have had my music performed.

Just like anything else, being able to discern tones has nothing to do with being successful in the music business.

The test you are about to take was used as a screening test to roughly characterize a patient’s pitch discrimination and musical memory abilities. Even though musical memory is strongly tested here, we have found that people who are tonedeaf tend to have normal musical memories.

So yes, musical memory is a part of the test. But how else would you discriminate the patterns?

Turbo your test assumes that the listener knows how to read music.

Well not necessarily read music but, yes, have a little bit of musical background. I can't really read music but I know scales. So for me the test was just going "la la la la" until I matched the note from middle C....so still... just pitch. The lower notes were trickier because I would have to just find the octave above and sing it but still no "reading" just very hacky pitch matching.

Edit: I would be surprised if the other people that could actually perfect pitch match (and not just do a great round of musical simon says) would not have some sort of musical tinkering in their past. So I still think this a bit of a better test.

44.4% but I already knew I was tonedeaf as shit! Bad thing is this was using a $400 set of headphones as well and i still cant tell that shit apart.
