There's a big ass bee hive in my back yard. Should I..?

How should get rid of these bees?

  • Shoot at the hive with my .22

This does work but the trouble with this idea is your going to attract more bee's to the sweet nector than you may have originally had.

Maybe a few, but they have to be in the area. I've done this before, you're not going to get a swarm showing up because you did it.

No deff not a swarm. I guess what I was thinking was the only time this is really a problem is if say your having people over for a cookout or something its a good idea to take them while your in the yard and then bring them back out when your not outside.
 
Paypal me $500 and I will use my panda busting bee removal techniques with exclusive added secret source to remove your beers, and keep you top of the list of gardens for bees not to swarm in for years to come.
 
Used to be a beekeeper when I was a kid - people freaking out over (non African) honeybees is hilarious to me. As long as you are calm they won't mess with you - even if you're in the midst of stealing their honey from them. I used to go into hives with nothing but jeans, tshirt and one of the nets to keep them from landing on my face. As long as you smoke them first (makes them eat honey and chill out) and stay calm you're all good :)

If you every have another swarm just ignore them like you did this time. A swarm is the least dangerous you'll ever see honeybees - normally before they swarm they gorge themselves on honey so it's hard for them to bend enough to sting you - even if they want to. The swarm into a ball for several hours and send out scouts to find a nearby good place to start a new hive.
 
That dude grabbing the fucking hive was pretty badass - I would have just sprayed the fucking torch at it

It's the Africanized ones that scare the hell out of me. When you see the swarm cloud coming it's difficult to know if they're standard issue honey bees or the bad ass bitches that will go after you by the hundreds. I'm pretty sure the one's in my yard were regular honey, but I didn't want to go over and take the chance, having already been attacked by Africanized bees in the past.
 
Look for a bee person to relocate the swarm -- do a search in your area on "bee hive moving". Don't use a random bug guy either, 9 times out of 10 they'll just kill them. The bees are on the move looking to establish a new home -- DO NOT KILL. Seriously bro, bees have it rough lately. Treat them nicely.

Just recently got back from NC on vacation. Uncle is a beekeeper, we were driving alongside some road and all of a sudden he gets excited and pulls over. Apparently he just found a swarm that just located a new home. Literally thousands of bees flying around. After first watching him just walk into this huge swarm, I followed. Really cool experience. I had to leave but he said the swarm was worth at least a hundred dollars, was planning on bringing over some sort of box and try to lure the colony into it as the new hive. Kinda weird thinking you're glad a hundred dollar asset just left for your neighbors' yard when you put it into that perspective.
