No, I'm not here to berate members. I simply got involved in a discussion because I feel that people should take some things with a grain of salt, and not believe everything they read, or trust those whom 'appear' to come without a sales pitch.

You can believe me if you want, I really don't care. I'm just hoping that someone, someday, will read all this and realize that they shouldn't take everything at face value and go off on some sort of mission just because Joe Blow tells them too.

By the way, imo, doing local seo/sem is a waste of effort. Will this secure a long term income? I highly doubt it, nor do I think you'll get the money you want from small business's. And you DON'T want to work for some corporate empire.... dollars are nice, but the cost is high.

Also, why are you telling everyone about this totally killer money making scheme anyways? Why don't you just do it yourself, one town at a time. Now THAT's a long term plan, with a much broader scope of income possibilities.

Just guessing here, but it's probably because it doesn't work out all that great, so you're pulling the whole "I've got this great idea to sell ya...."

*yawn* Read/seen that one a million times.

First of all, it was an excellent post by geek. Calling this a "money making scheme" is hilarious. Since when is building websites and charging SEO services for small businesses a scam?

There are 25m+ small businesses in the U.S. -- there is PLENTY of opportunity for everyone here.

Most small businesses would love to have a website but they either think it will cost too much or they don't know how to go about it. Go to the yellow pages and call a few web development companies and see what they are charging for a basic 5 pg site. I've been quoted as high as $5k+ ... and SEO was an extra monthly fee.

Even if you can't design or know any HTML you can outsource this for $500 or less easily. Turn around and sell it to them for $1k or more.

The majority of small businesses just need a basic design. A lot of their services are face-to-face so they don't require building some huge database or ecommerce site. They just need some basic contact info about what they do and a phone number with a map of their location.

Some are already paying $1k per month for a Yellow Page listing. Tell them how important it is to have a online presence and show them an estimated monthly search count for their related keyword terms. If they have any competitors online show them their websites and how they are stealing clients from them.

Charging them $1k for a website and a small SEO fee will be easy after you show them the benefits and how much more revenue they can generate as a result.

Uhg.... you missed my point by about 37 miles.

Everyone may feel free to look up my name. I don't have an ebook to sell. I frequent other forums, mostly to learn, but I pass along my business knowledge as well.

One forum I do NOT frequent anymore is DP. I shudder just thinking about that place.

Uhg.... you missed my point by about 37 miles.

Um, no I didn't. You think he was doing some sort of "formatted linking strategy".

I can't say for sure if he doesn't own a couple of those sites but the majority of them he does not.

You missed the point of the entire post and that was a legit and easy way to make some money by selling websites/SEO services to small businesses.

No, I think you missed the point of geeks original message: It was his version of the infamous "Do It Fucking Now" post.

He gave an example of what COULD be done. The point was to motivate folks. Not to buy an ebook, use his services, or anything else, but to drive SOMEONE to action.

Is he a guru? No. Does he sell anything other than writing services? No. Did he hock his services in that post? No.

Did he motivate? Yes, in one form or another, he did, in a positive way.

You, on the other hand, throwing up your "Hey 'tards! Don't believe everything you hear/read!" posts.

"Need some ideas? Short on cash and long on debt? Need a way to bootstrap yourself so you can work on the projects that will make you a Rich Jerk one day?"
He was giving an idea away as part of the post!

Quote:
"Here's one that I KNOW works well. I cannot fathom how it is not a foolproof method to start making $5,000+ a month almost immediately."
Prove him wrong. Me, I don't like customers, so I am not about to try this, but it DOES give me IDEAS for other projects.

Well, you already said you like your nice safe paycheck. GUESS WHAT! SO DO I!!! I like retirement money, health plans and frequently being paid.

I may not be the person who gets out there, quits my job and goes in search of Super Affiliate status, but if I can be motivated every once and awhile to get off my ass and actually TRY something, I like it!

Oh, and the title Geek used, to me, was part throwing down the gauntlet and part linkbait/poking fun at ebooks & sales pages.

Anyway, I am going to try and avoid this thread from now on. I sat down to work on some geo-ip code and damned if I didn't get sucked into this... DAMN YOU WICKEDFIRE!!! ;-)

Hahahhah.... I'm sorry, but I just get a kick outa the wise cracks about my time online.

Ok, so about the time I rolled online was about 13 years to make it exact. And at that time, the web was nothing like it is today. Same basic concepts, but design, money opportunities, and such were still really under development or not invented yet. In fact, if you happen to know your history, there really wasn't much before that time either. Heck, google was just a 'thought', at best.

Sure, there were sites and all, but data was sparatic and the net was only attainable by those that had the money.

So, to attack my time on the net and portraying me as a newb, only sets one single fact into concrete.....

I was poppin' cherry's while you were down on the corner selling lemonade.

Ya think?

I don't. I was only stating that you were such a Newbie because of 10 whole years. Way more than these other kids who got their first computers just before Year 2000.

You may want to keep the age/experience-centric comments to yourself since not everyone on the internet is 13 years old.

I have been 'online' since 1977. I started calling BBSs when there were 16 IN THE NATION. So to me, with 30 years 'online' your 10 years, sorry, make that 13, still ranks you as newbie to me. That and your attitude.

Done with the geo-ip work, off to scrape some proxy addresses.

Didn't we tell you to post something intelligent/smart/funny/useful?

I need a banhammer.

Not for this guy (tho tempting) But it is me who has to deal with the noobs.
Pleeeeaaaaaase?

:D:D:D:D:D:D

This is the best guy fight thread ever.

P.S. Mr. August...emp is a smart guy. Doesn't matter how long he's been online, his posts *here* are golden and have helped a lot of people. That's what counts.

Wow.... How cool is that.....

Look ladies and gentlemen, we JUST HAPPEN TO HAVE here with us one of the first people to use the worlds FIRST modem (1977).

Yes siree, best case scenario he was 15 at the time with (with obviously LOADED parents, or ground level with drastically rich company at age eighteen). That makes you what.... roughly 45-50 years old by now?

Combined with your edgy demeanor, street talk, and inability to comprehend what I wrote (didn't bother to read it... did ya) I'd have to say....BS.

I call your bluff....

Hahaha... I have heard 50 year olds put ANY youth "street slang" to shame.

An ols colleague of mine would come in in the mornings and greet us all with the german equivalent of: "How is it going, mouthcunts?" at top volume. He would continue from there.

Really, really nice guy and incredibly smart and knowledgeable. But the vocabulary of a cum guzzling gutter slut.

::emp::

Same... And I understand.

But I've never met a 50 year old that talks in this particular manner. Only 15-25. 30 would be pushing it.

Yes, did read your post, and responded to it without having to drop 'cool street talk' such as your "I was poppin' cherry's while you were down on the corner selling lemonade."

I was only pointing out that you tried to play the 'experienced/aged' card, but in my case, you failed.

And what were you calling BS and a bluff?

And while models were generally available back in 1960, they were not that expensive in 1977. Not compared to the computers, that is. :-)

Rich parents? I should be so lucky!

I know you are sitting there watching the AJAX post feed, waiting for a reply, so here you are. Feel free to continue stroking yourself by making these worseless(look it up) posts. You were challenged to post 5 decent posts and have yet to start.

This thread is dead to me. :) I am nothing compared to Mr. Stitch

:sleep::sleep::sleep::sleep::sleep:

If Matt Cutts comes down and berates everyone, does he get 'the hammer' (cute by the way), just because he has one post?

Fuck Matt Cutts. Go kiss his ass somewhere else.

Fuck Joe Blow. I'm Geekcognito, bitch. Remember it.

You came into my thread, called me a spammer, and offered nothing positive to the discussion. You're a fucking troll. Nothing more.

By the way, imo, doing local seo/sem is a waste of effort. Will this secure a long term income? I highly doubt it, nor do I think you'll get the money you want from small business's.

You may want to start reading threads before you bash the OP, numbnuts. The post was all about inspiration for n00bs to stop reading and do something to bootstrap their online efforts/business. Offering SEM to local businesses is a great way to do that, like it or not. Just because you can't do it doesn't mean that most people that read the thread can't.

Local search is becoming much more integral as a way for consumers to find local businesses. I'm a little surprised that you aren't more aware of this trend with your TEN YRS ON THE INTERWEBZ YAAAARRR!

Also, why are you telling everyone about this totally killer money making scheme anyways? Why don't you just do it yourself, one town at a time. Now THAT's a long term plan, with a much broader scope of income possibilities.

Simple: because that's not what I want to do long term and if you had any fucking CLUE about the market that is available out there you wouldn't ask such a dumb question. That's like asking a local mechanic, "Hey why don't you keep your business of fixing cars to yourself so you can fix all of the cars in the country ALL BY YOURSELF?"

But you got that TEN YEARS on the interwebz so I guess you got it all figured out.

Dumb shit. Go back to Webmaster World so you can polish Matt Cutts' knob some more, loser.

i actually had a post yesterday that i was going to put up here saying that you and i've locked horns before, but it never entered anywhere near the obnoxiousness that this jackass MrBitch is bringing to this thread - basically shitting on everyone and anyone. but i didn't want to fuel the thread - then i check in this morning and the thing has gone on well into a second page with MrBitch carrying on the same way with everyone else. Ungh. I'm not about silencing voices, but fuck this guy and ban his troll ass.

i might not always agree with you, geekcognito, but i respect you!

i wouldn't wipe dogshit off the bottom of my shoe w/ MrBitch lest I soil my kickers some more.

Sorry guys, I apologize for my short sightedness (though, I won't apologize for others'). I just called it as I seen it. As far as stomping/shitting on everyone... I only pointed out a few grammatical/spelling error when the name calling started flying. Come on now, my two daughters are more civilized than that.

I still stand by my initial opinion tho. But we can just leave it at that, eh?

Moving on?

If any admins or the owner feels that I'm wrong in any way, they are certainly allowed to take action however they feel. Go for it.

Not like I can do anything anyways. :)

I still stand by my initial opinion tho. But we can just leave it at that, eh?

Sure. But that doesn't make you any less of a pole smoker because your "original position" is that I'm spamming WickedFire.

Ordinarily I wouldn't give two shits what you think or even post. But since you have nothing better to do than to take the time to dream up an entire conspiracy theory in your post I took offense. It's not because I mind being "called to task," so to speak, it's because you had enough brainpower to make it actually seem plausible to someone that isn't very familiar with this forum or me.

I'm not a spammer, you douche. I'm not a "guru." The post was a "It's a new year, get inspired" kind of deal. And yeah, I wanted to attract attention with the title and the structure of the content - I didn't post it because I wanted it to be ignored.

Stop being an alarmist dumb shit. If my post really was "spam" I would have been called out ten minutes after it was posted by the regular WickedFire posters - IM professionals that are infinitely more intelligent and savvy than you're portraying yourself to be (in spite of your TEN YRRRRRRRRRSSSSSSSSS OF INTERWEB EXPERIENCE, RRRRRLLLY! LOL!!!111 OMG!).
