The only people who think that w3c valid markup means anything are elitist designer fucks who also read alistapart and think that they can save the world through web design.

To answer your qustion though: It doesn't make an ounce of difference in SEO.
 
i feel that a small benefit of making them compliant is getting them into w3c directories and such, which are usually pretty good PR and traffic.

Otherwise, I wouldn't waste time perfecting it for SEO
 
some of my scraper scripts don't work right if your page isn't structured correctly, so please, for my sake, make sure your sites are all w3c compliant.

In that sense, isn't Google essentially a scraper site itself?
