Tips on falling asleep?

Have someone read to you. This audiobook, narrated by Samuel L Jackson, is relaxing:

learn to meditate. I used to suffer from horrendous sleep maintenance insomnia (where i'd wake after 3 hours and not be able to sleep again), and it cured it permanently.
This will reduce your sleep time dramatically.

I found out by accident that having an A0 interesting poster above my bed helped reduce the time further. If I accidentally think about anything, I don't let it worry me, in fact, it helps me - I simply imagine it forming part of the poster, morphing, etc etc.

That point is when you know you have about 30 seconds max before you're asleep. (And as a bonus, you have awesome dreams)

Need more physical activity. Make your body yearn for rest and rejuvenation, and you'll fall asleep no problem.

stop drinking coffee. stop taking Jack3d. Stop taking Adderall.

Work out 3-5 times a week.

Drink a gallon of water a day.

Also, sleeping with a humidifier will help you voice in the morning (won't have that frog voice when you wake up).

ASMR/Whisper Videos on youtube help me a lot...

My 'trick' is that I watch/listen to something entertaining enough to keep me thinking about it, but boring enough to fall asleep to. For me this is generally educational stuff on space, archeology, etc. Podcasts also work pretty decent for me. So long as I can keep my mind from wandering I'm okay. Otherwise my thoughts just ramp up until it's impossible for me to sleep.

I was in this same exact spot earlier this year, so I know how frustrating this must be for you.

1 Reduce your caffeine intake- coffee, coke, etc.
2 Create a daily schedule- first choose the most productive hours for work and also make sure you're out of the house for 2 or 3 hours
3 If you're tired during the day, take 1-2 20minute naps
4 Add some alcohol to the mix- you said you're going out so I guess you're already doing that
5 Don't drink any coffee or coke 2-3 hours before bedtime
6 Don't eat past 8PM
7 Make sure that you're in bed by 11.30-12max
8 Find a good sleeping duration. For me it's 6.5-7h, if I sleep for 8h or longer, I'll be useless for at least an hour in the morning.
..or get a girlfriend.. that's guaranteed to sort you out

The hardest thing is being consistent, so stick to your schedule no matter what. If you do happen to relapse, make sure it's only a day or two. Good luck bro

I stay awake until I'm tired. Some days it takes being awake for 16 hours, sometimes it takes 18 hours, and sometimes it takes 26 hours.

close your eyes and don't move a muscle for 15 minutes (not even your eye muscles) no matter how uncomfortable you get

1. Practice relaxation techniques like deep breathing. Take deep breaths in and out through your nose. Prior to sleeping, do a quick 5 minute meditation to calm your mind. From my experience, most sleepless nights are due to an overactive mind. Perhaps something's been bothering you?

2. Practice good sleep hygiene. Go to bed and get up at the same time, every day, despite how much/little you slept. This will help to reset your body's circadian rhythm and allow it to slowly transition back into your routine.

3. Only use your bed for sleep and sex (no working/studying in your bedroom). You don't want to take your worries with you.. unless your girlfriend is one of them.

4. It's good that you like evening workouts, but don't do them too late. Make sure they are completed at least 3-4 hours before retiring for the night.

5. Avoid taking naps. This is a big one. Most people will try to take a nap during the day to "make up" the sleep they lost overnight. In fact, this is terrible. If you've napped during the day, you've again distorted your circadian rhythm/sleep pattern and will have difficulty going to bed at night. Tough it out and only go to bed when it's time for bed.

-FYI, I'm a pharmacist

No food 5 hours before sleep - regular exercise - bit of red wine - some sex, job sorted.

Also remember to get up no later than 8am.

I haven't read all the messages here, but I had this issue as well.
I would also wake up 11-13 times a night on a 4-6 hour sleep cycle.

Here is what helps me:

1. Wake up earlier. Yes, earlier. I found that if I normally woke up at 7am, I would wake up at 5am and just get my day started. Fight the stinging eyes and grog. By the time 10pm rolls around, that extra 2 hour staying up will make your body crave sleep before your normal bedtime since you missed out on 2 hours.

2. Dont eat or drink 2-3 hours before bed unless its water or light eating.

3. Have sex, or at least exercise an hour before bed.

4. Take a hot shower, then a cold shower, then a hot shower after the sex/exercise and get in bed

5. Take 1-2 Melotonian or w/e their called. I dont like telling people to take shit to sleep, but I do. I actually take 2 different pills at the same time ( both non presecrip and over the counter ) that have a mix of natural ingredients in them.

Doing this got me bed earlier and kept me from waking up all night too.

i did have serious issues with sleep, i could not sleep hours after getting in bed. and here's what helps, and hurray, gay bros, sex is not needed for this, so a good sex-free method that worked wonders for me:
enroll in the army or do stuff they are doing there. regime, wake up early, run, exercises, do mundane jobs, boring routines, combine your brain work with physical work on a regular basis, exercise, run, fck your brain with boring physical work to do, like peeling a sack of potatos for example. after a few months your nervous system will be repaired and say thank you. the effect is very long-lasting and 100% pill free

I learned Shavasana (corpse pose) in yoga. Works well with traditional meditation. Both can be tricky to learn at first, but Shavasana almost becomes addicting. At least it did for me and brought many positive changes in life, one of which was the ability to fall asleep almost any time I please:

Melatonin an hour before bed...weed makes me hyper, not tired. If I smoke before bed I'm just laying there thinking about all kinds of shit for an hour+.

Don't try to sleep (go to bed) when you don't feel sleepy. Work on something or watch TV until you feel sleepy. I watch TV in bed until I sleep and fall in sleep while watching TV. I set the TV to automatically turn off after sometime and keep the volume low. That's what is working for me!
