Tips on falling asleep?

Working out really hard that day definitely helps. Melatonin also works for me but gives me crazy ass dreams all night long which I'm not a huge fan of.

Weed is probably the best answer. I'm on a weed/xanax/melatonin/ativan/workoutreallyhardthatday rotation currently. I don't ever use the same sleep method two nights in a row that way I can keep things crispy.

Oh and sometimes I imagine someone at a bar talking my ear off about something really boring.

I sometimes would actually get afraid of the concept of sleep.

I'd lay in bed, and start to fall asleep, and then get freaked out and force myself to stay awake. It's like the feeling where your eyes get heavy and your brain starts to drift off.

Something about the concept of being unconscious and not having control would often frighten me.

Anyone else get this, or am I just weird?

Meditation or brainwave entrainment. Also reading a decent book. Don't watch TV or play Playstation before bed, worst thing you can do.

Gym, running, or sports and a process of some sort. The specific process doesn't really matter as long as you have one.

Learning the art of the power nap helps from taking long naps that kill your schedule. As long as I stay under 12-19 minutes and keep the light on, my power naps are money.

Everyone's got this covered. I don't have anything important to add, but I feel like making a post anyways.

It's a behaviour issue usually. So here's what you do.

1. Stay awake for as long as it takes to get tired.
2. Set an alarm to 9am or whatever your ideal waking up time is (even if you'll go to sleep at 5am).
3. Wake up even if it sucks
4. Next day you'll probably be tired and want to take a nap through the day - resist it.
5. When the time comes to sleep you'll be begging for it

IMO it's pretty easily fixable if you can stick to not sleeping through the day and waking up at a fixed hour no matter what. By doing this you'll naturally instantly fall asleep at night since your body will need it.

This is good advice but can be easier said than done, especially if you have a shitload of stuff to do but can't get it done due to fatigue.

If that's the case, take some adrenal supplements/b vitamins and cut down on the caffiene in the morning. Excercise at lease 20min and get out in the sun for at least 20 minutes will help boost your melatonin. Also try eating foods that increase melatonin (cherries, turkey, warm milk), and/or foods to increase serotonin (which is a precursor to melatonin). Naturally produced melatonin is always superior to otc melatonin.

Try to avoid working late at night too as the mental activity/computer glare can give you a second wind you don't want.

Melatonin helps, plus stop staring at a computer screen for at least two hours before bed. If you must use a computer, use f.lux.

Computer use stops your body from producing melatonin that it normally would.

This.

And turn off most of the lights in your house at least 2 hours before bedtime. If you watch TV before going to bed, watch it in the dark.

In your bedroom, cover all light sources. If you have an LED clock on your nightstand, point it away from you so you're not looking at it. Basically, you want the room as dark as possible.

Have a "sleep ritual". The best one that's always worked for me goes like this:

Go to sleep at the same time every single day.
Go for a 30-45 minute walk just before bed.
Don't oversleep.

I've also cut down on caffeine (just one cup of coffee a day in the mornings).
