tell them not to start "sexting either" (well if they're ugly, then it's probably not a problem, but if you've got some sexy kids, then you might have a problem).
also, not to give out any personally identifiably information, use the same handles on multiple websites, unless it's a very common word (like a noun) and other things.

I love this show. That being said, I don't understand how they get away with things like you just mentioned.
I'm no lawyer, but what you describe sure doesn't sound like someone breaking the law to me. For example, if a young looking 25-year old says she is 15, and you have sex with her, does that mean you go to jail for a "thought crime"?? Because in actuality you didn't break a law that I am aware of, she was 25, not really 15.

If you have ever seen some of the chat logs it's pretty fucked up, very often the "child" would initiate conversations with the "predator" and start talking sexually. Now don't get me wrong, the adults are morons and they should have been smart enough to cut contact but still very often they are pulled in a lot further then they would have ever taken it on their own.
As wrong as they were there is still a difference between a guy meeting up with a girl that messaged him everyday about how horny she was and a guy that is actively pursuing children trying to get them to reveal information about themselves so he can take advantage of their good nature.
I don't think most of these guys go to jail (correct me if I'm wrong) just the ones that seem to be real active predators that they get a lot of dirt on.
Bad guys go to jail, morons learn their lesson the hard way and we get to laugh as it all happens! win/win/win.
according to the show (at the end of one of the youtube clips) several of them do serve time.
all that aside, how many people do you guys think they bait? i can't believe that they all hang around when confronted by some guy. I wonder the the conversion rate (perps staying to talk) is.

These predators physically leave their house, drive sometimes 300+ miles and show up at the residence with the knowledge that they are meeting a 12 or 13 yr old girl for sexual contact. These men chose of their own free will to walk into that home to meet a minor.
Sounds like the definition of a child predator to me.
You may be right, I just looked it up and they claim to have a near 100% conviction rate, there are a few sites however that are calling bullshit claiming that Perverted Justice wont show any proof or records and they believe the conviction rate is actually around 5%. It's 4AM though so I'll do more digging tomorrow when I'm not tired as Hell.
I always get a laugh out of the show but part of me feels kind of guilty for laughing at those fucking losers. Most of the guys act like children, not men. Sometimes you get a sense that they don't think they're doing anything wrong because they are kids themselves. Pretty sad, really.
The cops that trap these guys go to chat rooms where they know they know the perverts will be. They then most probably then bait people into messaging them with chat about being young alone and curious or something. In the clip guys were showing up because some kid said he was home alone for 4 days at 13.
Now in terms of kids coming to them, if your kid is not hanging out in #teensex then the odds are better that they wont fall for this. Are perverts talking to kids about sex in #dora or something? Why wouldn't they find the context weird...
We are all gen x and y's in here and we lived though internet chatrooms. If I was hanging out in #hacking on AOL and some guy asks if I am alone and a want to be touched I told him to fuck off. At some point it really does come down to educating kids about the dangers of the internet. And if they really have the need to troll people then not to give out their home address.
Part of what bugs me about the entrapment aspect of it is that the guys often try to end the chat or say they shouldn't meet, but the decoys then persuade them. On the show they always talk about those moments as the decoy acting like a "precocious teenager", as though it's realistic for a teenager to be chasing these guys and persuading them. Sure, these guys shouldn't be weak enough to be persuaded, but they are and if these decoys hadn't persuaded them maybe they would have never had the courage to actually act on their thoughts. In a lot of cases anyway, I'm sure that's true. So as far as I'm concerned, in those cases they are punishing the guys for their thoughts, not for criminal activity.
That show is like a train wreck. Can't help but to watch it whenever it was on.
Interesting to recall the very 1st episode didn't have any cops jumping the guys when they left. No police involvement whatsoever. Also LOL'd when one of the pervs was caught a second time later on that same show.
NBC likely got lots of heat from viewers after seeing them all get away with it, so they brought in cops for future episodes.
The one Canadian version of this show sought out police participation too but none of them would bite (however the tape and perps' contact info, etc was sent to applicable forces)
Also find it interesting that even if the guys don't show up, cops went to their homes to arrest them for merely dirty chatting with the (not)underage bait. That's what happened with the guy who killed himself as cops were outside his home.

I just don't see how you can be a critic of the tactic. Sure, the cops are in the chat rooms baiting men and sometimes initiating the conversation -- but the men that make the decision to physically leave their house show clear intent. These guys are clearly dangerous to a minor.
Under most state statutes passed to combat online predators, the demonstrated intent to solicit sexual acts from a minor is sufficient to land you in jail regardless of whether the minor is a willing participant.

Ugh I hate the justice system so much. Probation and drug tests for marijuana possesion, jail time for concealsed weapons and 10 years chilling in prison exhausting:

a) insufficient attorney representation

As far as the "precocious teenager" enticing the men, would you also agree that a woman wearing a tight skirt and a low cut top is partially to blame if she get's roofied and raped at a bar? An adult should be able to make a proper decision regardless of how stupid a kid (fake or not) maybe acting.
And as far as punishing guys for thoughts and not criminal activity. Wow. They fully expect to go over there and stick their dick into some kid and you think nothing should be done about it until after somebody get's raped or molested?
It's simply unfathomable for me to be able to locate one shred of sympathy for the predicament these sick fucks find themselves in.
