Can anyone share any tools they use for managing remote employees?

Managing hours billed, setting goals or communicating.

I use slack but wondering if there is anything to manage hours billed, payroll integration etc.

Thanks in advance.

Basecamp original baby. Stupid simple.

I feel bad paying for it since you could even code a clone in a weekend it's so dead simple.

It's obviously not for complex coding, issue tracking, etc...

JIRA can be overwhelming for a software team but hey I've seen it work great too. For my VAs, and misc development projects baseCamp has worked out great though and I've tried a lot of others... most are way too complex for "cheap" outsourced workers to FULLY use anyway.

Don't forget lots of prayer so you can get good workers that would not adopt and copy your business and clients.

I think payment per assignment seems fair to everyone concerned depending on the type of work.

Uhh...? That's very short sighted.

It's one thing to not want to build a quick linkbuilding bot with a programmer who might take it and use it (if they do SEO), completely different for an entire business model.

The thought of a remote worker approaching one of my clients and actually landing them is laughable. I would say you're selling yourself short.

For all those areas you will want TeamworkPM. Trello would be a huge pain for client work like that and doesn't cover all the areas you mentioned. You would have to pick up additional programs like Toggl (time management) if you went with either Basecamp or Trello.

Idea for automation with any of these programs: http://www.wickedfire.com/2247084-post13.html

While I agree with you, so called 3rd world workers are not so naive anymore. The internet connects people much faster than even 2 or 3 years ago. I have heard too many horror stories not to urge caution.

After-all, it all depends on what you're selling or having them do.

I use a combination of Worksnaps (for time management), Asana (for project management) and Slack for chat... integrated together.

I've had Filipino staff for years, and never would I be worried about them stealing my business.. ahhaha... if they wanted to go out of their own I'd actively help them.. and be impresed...

I totally understand some people here might be single freelancers -- but that's not much of a business model to worry about someone copying? Please prove me wrong though. A couple tactics here and there shouldn't have you losing a client to someone unless you're a very low value/margin/price service and or not a great service. There's a lot more that separates you from competition.

TBH, not to sound rude or anything, but I'm just not sure how serious I should take this. Did you just quickly post that without much thought? Just makes no sense and you're shooting yourself in the foot plain and simple.

For billing, Toggl. Or TimeDoctor if you don't trust them (standard choice for South Asian / Filipino VAs).
