I'm so disgruntled. My business partner has recently become interested in my blog and REALLY wants me to release an ebook. It gets worse. He wants me to charge for it. Wait did i mention it gets worse. He wants to coauthor it with me(Granted he's good and would have some great things to say but if i ever stooped down to putting out an ebook I would at least be the one to write the full thing). It gets better. He wants me to sell it on my blog.

I'm really torn guys. Its a good idea and it would probably make some decent extra cash, but the last thing i want is to go commercial in the seo community. If i can't find a damn good reason to tell him no on the idea than I'll probably end up doing it. He's even already started writing it. Since everyone here is so anti ebook I was hoping you could help me out and give me some good arguments of why I shouldn't do it. Besides the obvious: It will make you gay, it will make your penis shrink, it will cause babies in africa to die.

Help me please! At the very least tell me you wouldn't waste your money on it.

There are plenty of worthwhile e-books out there... be problem is that they are 1 in 10,000. Just don't be one of the 9,999 and you're fine. SeoBook is a great example.

oh i didn't say the ebook would be bad. infact if i had to do it i'd make sure it was downright fuckin awesome. doesn't mean i want to actually write the damn thing little alone sell it and certainly not endorse it or any other ebook. :( :(

"This e-book is a MUST BUY for anyone that wants to learn the quick, no sugar coated BS approach to blogging.. I think this is one e-book that everyone will soon be talking about and consider a must read when starting up a blog for business purposes. Good job Andrew, you’ve produced some fine work here!"

A positive review by Jon, very nice.

Andrews book is infact very good.

Deliguy - just promise if you are going to do it do it right

Deli - write the damn thing if YOU want to write it, why look for approval from anyone here, most of whom carry a strong bias/disdain for certain endeavors. YOu think Chris gives a shit if you like him doing arbitrage? or if the porn pubilshers care that you might not like the business they're in?

Seriously, if you have a great idea, and you want to publish it, and you want to make some dough from sharing it, and you don't disdain ebooks like so many do (and so many don't), and you have a partner that supports you.. DO IT!

(ps) No one can tell you if they'd buy it or not, obviously, without knowing what it's going to be about.

and i guess if you don't feel like doing it, and you end up doing it, you wont do it as right as you can..so there is one excuse=/

but if u do write one, im sure it will be good!

Take all the ideas in your blog but expand on them and create step by step instructions on setting them up for the noobies. Call it the BlueHat SEO book or somethign like that. Charge $49 or whatever you think is appropriate. Dont use any of the tacky sales hype. Your loyal readers will buy it and be satisfied.

alright so i gather as long as i make it really damn good i'm not a complete sell out? This may not turn out as bad as I'm thinking. God knows I could talk for days about seo so it probably won't be too much of a bitchwork project.

I think your blog is excellent. I was just reading it yesterday and I remember wondering that why you haven't wrote ebook yet :) Every SEO blog owner seems to have one nowadays and I guess they make few bucks out of them.

Don't sell it, that is the most degrading thing anyone can do (IMO)

I have to agree with engaged, SEO Book is crap, I downloaded it the other day and it was a worseless piece of crap. Wasted my rapidshare account...ummmm I mean..... my hard earned cash ;)

The problem with ebooks is that not many authors bother to update them so many of them contains very outdated info. For example Definitive Guide to Adwords. Many of techniques in that book doesn't work anymore thanks to algo and rule changes.

I would prefer that Deliguy would keep writing excellent info for free in to his blog for obvious reasons ;)

Deliguy - do the ebook, show it to people here and have them review it. Get with Jon to come up with a WF ebook seal of aproval and make sure the book does not promise to make you a billionaire in 25 minutes.

The problem most people have with ebooks is the # that are crap is so high it is not funny. You are in business right? If you have a talent and or product that is of value what is the deal about selling it? You should take steps to make sure from day 1 that real people who have had real results in your area endorse your book. Also don't be greedy and charge $300 for it!

I agree that seobook is way overrated, but you have a really great blog and I would be interested to read an eBook covering some of the topics you cover there. The advantage to the eBook is the information is organized in a way that's easier to use - as opposed to blog posts. Just make a good one and don't hype it in the way all these shady bastards do.

I agree with chrislingle. Let some of the members on WF review it for free. It will give you an authority that most ebooks lack.

If it is informational and not a get rich quick scheme then it wouldn't be bad. Just make sure it is $97. lol. Good luck with it.

haha alright my sales pitch will be. Here's my ebook. Here's the chapters. That'll be a $1.95. Thank you and pull forward to the second window.
