Unloaded Guns Are Dangerous

Yeah, I saw the misdemeanor part and was surprised by that. Figured it'd be a felony. Wiki does say a minimum ninety days in jail though. Is that not correct in your friend's experience?

I'm not sure about that. Another friend of mine is an attorney and he's the one that originally revealed this to me. He didn't say anything about mandatory jail. I can't seem to find anything other than that wikipedia page that says anything about a mandatory 90 days.

Despite the potential jail sentences it is rare for one of our clients to go to jail for this sort of an offense even if they are guilty

y are women in politics again?

I'm not a sexist, but come the fuck on. Just stop. They had it right 100 years ago, lets rewind.

I love it when people say...

"I'm not [adjective], but [statement proving they are (adjective)]."

Interesting. It sounds like there's lots of wiggle room for the prosecutors and judges. Not surprising. So, when some woman is busted with a .38 in her purse because she lives in some shit neighborhood, they can give her a pass. But there's still law on the books to lock up some thug just for packing. Makes sense.

^Are you like new to this thing called government or something?

That's exactly what laws are for. So they can easily find reasons to bust anyone they want to whenever they want to. Just like the iPhone unlocking law... Some will go down for it, but only the ones they were already looking for a reason to take down.

Who the hell is new to government, lukep, other than newborns?

I understand what you're saying. I was more surprised at the leniency. I would have expected it to be an outright felony to illegally carry a concealed firearm, period. I philosophically support somebody's right to do so, if they feel the need, particularly women who regularly feel threatened.

At the same time, I spend a fair amount of time in the East Bay Area, where there is no shortage of ghetto, fifteen-year-old retards who pack, and have very little, if any, respect for human life. So, I was suggesting the cops and judges were being pragmatic, more than anything.

I have very few illusions about authority and power. But do you think we'd all be better off if everybody went around strapped all the time, and maybe even abolished the police all together? Because personally, I don't want to carry a gun, even though I like them just fine. I see that more like building a bunker in your back yard and stocking it with canned food and ammo. I can see why people might want to. I just don't want to live my life that way.
