US Soldiers now get burial in Landfill.

...All three of us were as dumb as a bag of rocks, by the way. I got damn lucky.
ah ok. so the idea that the "majority" of troops are fucking retarded is based on your two brothers. understood.

fwiw, i did 4 years 11B2P. that's the MOS code for army infantry, aka dumb as fuck grunt. props if someone knows what the P is.

i served in 3 different units and i was always amazed at the the frequency of individuals who I served with who had higher level degrees; it was consistently higher than that of the general public. yeah, there's some fucking morons there, but there's fucking morons everywhere. i had more substantive discussions about politics and the wars with some of the men i served with than i ever have had with civilians.

also, to those making claims as to the motives of soldiers, the answer they give to civilians is not the same as the real reasons they'll only discuss with close friends, family, and other servicemen.

I guess the real issue with this is no one knows what part of the body the "Soul" is in. What if you lose 10% of your body and only 90% of you gets to go to heaven? -Or some dumb-shit argument like that.

You can never resist a stab at religion. I can only assume you are speaking of religions other than Christianity. because you of course know about Christianity and would know that your statement above would not be relevant.

I have a brother that went into the Army, it worked out well for him and in fact it gave him the basis for his choice career.

I have a friend. college educated, smart guy, he flies for the Army and loves it.

Neither of the above are dumb.

This and this. I've never served, but I know a bunch of guys who have and hang out with them regularly. They're smart, motivated, passionate people who have a whole slew of reasons for serving, none of which were to "go kill foreigners" or any other such nonsense.

In fact, I'd say that they joined for the same reasons most people get a job -- to make some money, to advance their career aspirations, as an adventure, or because they felt drawn to it.

Trying to label soldiers, particularly in today's military, as a bunch of bloodthirsty rednecks who want nothing more than to shoot at brown people is ridiculous.

Well, a century of endless wars start to take its toll, running out of land for proper cemeteries to be built on.

No excuse for this. Cremated remains weigh 5lbs or so, and take up less than a cubic foot.

They could fit 2200 cremated remains into a single 40 foot container, and have a Navy ship and crew do some sort of ceremony where they scattered the ashes at sea.

Bugs me that they put more effort into giving Osama Bin Laden's body a dignified end.

Pat Tillman gave up a lucrative football career to join the army, was killed by friendly fire and then the army tried to cover it all up. He was also an atheist, just to add some extra fuel to the fire. Slightly unrelated but worth a watch. Anyone who would join the army after seeing this is freakin insane.

That is messed up and further proof that soldiers are just killing machines that the government use and don't actually give a fuck about.

There are actually a lot of really smart people in the military. And although voters and politicians send them to stupid wars, they sign up to defend the tribe. Someone has to do it unless you are a stupid-as-fuck libertarian utopian douchebag that doesn't understand that you have to protect your shit from invaders at all times. Where they go is not their choice, but someone has to be prepared to defend us. A lot of the people you call stupid as fuck think that what they do is noble. I tend to agree, and the way voters, citizens and politicians treat them like shit is shameful. In the end I have more respect for a guy who ended up as "seagull chow" that a dogmatic know-it-all spam blogger that contributes ZILCH to society.

The Tribe analogy fails in today's world. Tribe's went in to battle with their leader. Gone are the days when real KINGS led the way, instead of sitting back to watch or not even being on the battlefield at all.

I'll respect the Military only when a President, Prime Minister, King or Queen take to the battlefield and LEAD the way.

Commander's in Chief my ass.
