This riot was fucked up. Deserves its own thread just for the videos. I've watched dozens of videos on YouTube today and it's obvious to me now that 80%+ of people involved in this riot were either:
  1. Drunk Kids/Teens
  2. Non-Vancouverites
  3. Young Punks/Anarchists (would probably fit in the previous category)

Nevertheless, it's a sad event to remember for Vancouver, recently ranked #1 city in 2011 by The Economist in terms of quality of life!

This taught me a valuable lesson: AVOID public gatherings by all means.

ITT, typical Canadians saying how rioting isn't Canadian-like even though everyone knew it was coming..

I think everyone has a lot of suppressed anger, and once they're in an environment where they can release it, they will, and that negative energy spreads quickly. It doesn't matter where you're from, we've all been a slave to society one way or another.

Everyone, (if you're human), has been caught up in a moment of fear. Combine that with anger and I bet you've done shit before that you wish hadn't. I'm sure a lot of those people will watch themselves back and be surprised with how the acted.

It's kind of fucked up...The most desired place to live in Canada, turns into a disaster in one night, over a hockey game. What's going to happen when the shit really hits the fan!

knowing it was going to happen and supporting it are different though. Most canadians are pissed off about this and it's evident in the amount of tips sent to police and by vancouverites showing up on-mass to volunteer for cleanup the following day.

Canada is so elite and above America. Their people are all very educated and superior to those dirty Americans.

You do realize that this sarcastic comment is based on a generalization that is created by the American media more than anything else right?

We really don't talk about Americans nearly as often as you guys think at all, let alone in a negative light. Our economy relies on your economy, in fact a huge variety of things in our lives depends on you.

The "we are better than the rest of the world" mentality that Americans often think we have just simply doesn't exist.

Someone look familiar?

A little levity...

You guys have probably seen this pic by now:

The guy's mom had this to say about the picture:

'It is something he would do, that's our boy. He has always lived in his own world, he's special like that. He doesn’t always connect with what going on around him.

'I knew it was him because he doesn't have a lot of clothes with him and he always puts on the same thing.

'I'd have to have my house flooded to get on the news, but he just has to kiss a beautiful girl," she said.

lol

In North America, we have white people problems...we dont riot because our evil dictator is killing inocent people and we live on $2 a day....no we riot because our favorite sports team loses.

I hope I have my gun with me when something actually serious happens one day.

Everyone wasn't rioting, only a small percent. There were plenty of Vancouver fans respectfully clapping in the arena when the cup was presented to Boston.

There is something to be said about mob behavior though. If on a normal day four guys decided to trash a car, everyone would be even more like "WTF?"

I honestly dont want to comment in this thread. But it seems like many of you thinks that the riot is caused by people who lives in Vancouver. The truth is, most of these people came from the suburbs of Greater Vancouver. Our transit system can get you almost anywhere within the 25miles of downtown in an hour or less. Most of these fuckers came from outside Vancouver. Places like Surrey and Langley, where most rednecks and trailer park trash live. Majority of the brand name stores were cleared out empty. Gucci, LV, Coach, Futureshop even the fucking hudson bay. You want proof, well here you go. The day after the riot craigslist filled with handbags.
