Viral videos by Wickedfire marketers - my most successful:

What led to the concept of girls eating shit from a cup? Did you have an argument with your wife/girl friend and said, "Eat Shit!" and it suddenly clicked that guys would like to see girls demeaned like that?

Haha - they didn't film it, it's from an actual scat film out of Brazil I think. My guess is they just took the best 2 minutes out of it, came up with the name and banked. That's probably the best viral shit ever - major daps. Surprised the original producers of the vid didn't sue though...

2 girls 1 cup was an already existing promo clip for a Brazilian scat movie, right? So heavyt just snatched the video and watermarked it and made it go viral? Was it already viral and you jumped in and capitalized on the growing traffic by getting the domain?

Speaking of scat - anyone remember "The Shining"?

...must've been a fan.

I'm pretty sure this is officially the biggest backfire in the history of backfire threads at wf.

So do you guys get a cut in all the merchandising? Or I guess not since you sold it. I wonder if the new owners do.
Nope we don't get any cut with the merchandise. That's one market we didn't tap which we should have. The new owners went on a completely different path so I have no idea what they're possibly earning now.

It was a 2 minute clip montaged together from a 60 minute film. Surprisingly the original owners didn't sue-- I'm sure they were getting a good amount of traffic considering I had their site plugged on the page.
Yo Morgan and other dude, you should do an "ASK ME ANYTHING" on reddit.com, stick around and answer questions, plug your businesses, etc... pick up some marketing clients. Would be huge...

suggested title: "We are two guys who created 2girls1cup... ask us anything"

LINK: I Am A, where the mundane becomes fascinating and the outrageous suddenly seems normal.

90% chance of making front page.
That's actually a pretty good idea. I'll speak with Morgan about this too.

It was an existing clip. As far as I know I was the only one to pick up a domain and throw a video on it. I picked up quite a few like nastybitches.com and some others. 2girls1cup was the only that grabbed traction. Shit was overnight too.

haha, yeah, forgot this was bannerblindness thread.

@heavt || B 4 I Fu Ru 18

any clue where the roots of the viral-ness (is that a word?) of the video took off? i just checked my gmail logs from 2007 and a friend linked me from a bodybuilding IRC channel in early August 2007.

Did you have the idea of youtube reaction videos? Loads found it from there I think.

Why did you keep it quiet that you owned it when it was big? Just didn't want the publicity? I'd be telling everyone that I owned it, especially people in real life!

Some friends knew but even my aff managers didn't know at the time. I was running fling free signups heavily on that and amy who "used to work" at azoogle now cough epic direct didn't even knwo even though she begged to see the site. I never told her till one day they pulled refer stats and everyone in the office found out, she said nobody got work done the rest of the day lol cause everyone was talking about it.

I'd go out to the local college bar and the owners and stuff knew i owned it and would yell it outloud at the bar and stuff it was funny. One girl didn't believe me so I took a pic of her and put it on the site for a day lol but she asked for it.

I would go out on youtube and find funny vids to link to of reactions. The kermit one was the best.

Overall the guy dropped the change pretty easily for the site and the owner of efuct brokered it for us, he also bought hidebehind.com and a couple other sites.

LOL...I won that poker tournament! And that was pretty funny...

neat idea but weren't you some guy who was at a private poker table at an affiliate conference and started begging a network owner for cash to bang a prostitute in the bedroom that was in the suite that the private poker table was taking place at?

b4 launched it and was linking to the vid at various friends hosting accounts then people started getting pissed at a 5mb vid being downloaded 5k+ times a day or more in the begining. So he was running it but never did anythign hosting wise on this scale and I had. He need some help I stepped in fronted the money for a couple 100mbit unmetered servers, load balanced the site with some front end servers and kept an eye on it and babysitted it with web monitors and notification services. Then traffic died a little over winter break and came back a little but started going down again we sold it when it was time.

Oh by the way nice meeting you at the ewa party in san fran

Got a question HeavyT, no obligation to answer.

That demographic seem to be really hard to monetize even tho you guys had massive amount of traffic.

What was the revenue number looked like? Was it even worth it or yall put it up just for the hell of it.

I can't speak for b4 but my half of ad rev was high upper 5 figs for the few months we had it, my half of the sale well you already know from the above posts. We split everything rev wise evenly but server expenses and stuff came out of my half of earnings due to him letting me manage and keep it up and running and making money that was the agreement.

HeavyT, B4

How did you guys launch that site?

I launched the site mid August 07 IIRC. The site was posted on one forum as a lulz thing for the whole forum to laugh about. Soon enough I was getting billed like crazy and bitched at for the amount of bandwidth and usage. HeavyT stepped in once the site was getting close to 100k uniques/day which at that point I needed the help. I was paying off overage bills from shitty hosts and had no time to babysit the site constantly.

IN for an epic rap about our adventure.

At launch the site had zero ways of earning revenue. Even when the site was getting 100k uniques there was very minimal monetary value-- I was far too busy with other shit.

The revenue number was pretty good for a 5 page site. High 5 figures, close to 6. At first it was definitely not worth it. After monetizing it and paying everything back it sure was worth it.

Unlike the others who were impressed by the viral success, I actually am more impressed by the 2 girls pooping.

  1. Summarize this thread into an article with traffic screenshot
  2. Make a mini site with title 2 girls 1 cup internet marketing success story
  3. Submit it to reddit and digg
  4. ??????????
  5. Profit!!!!!
