Hey

Anyone is using a Wacom Tablet?


If yes:

  • Which one?
  • How much it cost?
  • What do you use it for? (specifically)
  • What are its strength & what for?
  • What are its weaknesses & for what?

If not:

  • Would you like to have one, and if yes, which one?

I have a Wacom Tablet but never use it. I had one of the 4x6" ones.

I can't imagine any marketer needing one... they're mostly for design and drawing
 
I have a Graphire 2 at home. Including the full version of Corel that it came with, it was AU$187.
I use it a lot for pretty much everything. I prefer the feel of a pen over a mouse.
It also doesn't end up giving out unexpectedly like my cordless mouse does when the battery dies.
The Graphire is a budget model, but has been surpassed in cheapness by the Bamboo. It's pretty functional, has 3 button mouse usage (with a Shift key modified apparently, never set it up though). Downbside is that unlike other models, there are no buttons on the plate at all.
I'd say if you do graphic work, they're a damn good investment. Get a Cintiq if you feel like cheating at FPS games too.
 
9x12 Intuos 2. Cost 220 used [but perfect condition] off e-bay. I use it for digital illustration. Works great, don't think you have to get sucked into the new models, make a good score on e-bay for an older model in great condition.
 
Get the Intous 3 if you can.

It has tilt and pressure sensor. You'll need that if you are doing photo or artworks. I use my table with Painter X and flash.
 
They are tough to use at first, but once you get the hang of it, it's just like using a mouse.

If you want to drop some dough grab a Cintiq - crazy expensive but I think it would help you work faster. That and they are just plain fucking cool.

The Bamboos are going to be a total waste of your time and money. Too small - too crappy.

If you want to do serious work consider a Intous at least - and don't go for a tiny one. Go for something at least 6x11. The 9x12 I like a lot but you have to consider how much you want to move your arm while drawing. I think it's easier when you do move your arm a bit - gives you better controle. I cringe when someone tells me they are working on like a 4x6 because I had one and it was just way too small to get good controle.

Pens are fucking expensive so don't loose or break yours. If you get an older tablet also don't buy extra tips. I have used my Intous 2 quite a bit over the time I have had it [which has been at least a year if not two] and don't see any sign of my tips wearing.
