If anyone out there has been trying to lose weight but hasn't found the proper motivation, I have something that should help.

Take a picture of yourself with your shirt off. For some reason when you see yourself in a photo it is much more shocking than in a mirror.

I've got a nice 20 pound gut... I friggin' look like I'm pregnant!

Ya I second that monkey. Even better, put on a pair of shorts. Take a picture from the side and the front view from foot to head.

Thank god for digital cameras. Now you dont have to take that roll to the developer and hope they dont look at it by hand.

Yep, I used to post ALL time time over there years ago, just got back into it too.

between going to golds gym, where everybody is a bodybuilder, and hanging out on bodybuilding.com... it makes the simple goal of not being a fatass really easy.

I did that a while back... fucking tragic. Started swimming, and swapped carbs for protien where I could. I do maybe 4km a week in the pool now.
What's really tragic is that I'm getting really muscular from it, but not dropping the fat T_T

Dropping the fat is automatic when you build muscle.
You STILL have to do cardio to get the process going tho.

Swimming is a good cardio workout in theory. Studies have shown that people who only do swimming (as opposed to walking/jogging) to loose weight tend to gain weight instead.
(The study took some overweight people and made them do 20min of the activity - either jogging, walking or swimming - each day. They could eat whatever and as much as they wanted.)

Why this is the case is not yet clear. The scientists think it might have something to do with hypothermia (body getting colder than usual) that swimming brings with it, which leads to the consumption of more/ more fatty foods after the exercise.

So either do some other cardio workout as well (I recommend cycling) or watch your diet.

aka Has been once, wanna be again, but flabby right now fitness buff. :anon.sml:

PS: Kyleirwin, pic threads like that are sooo gay.

emp: I was unaware of that... Thanks for the heads up.
I DO watch my diet. I usually don't eat anything after I swim but if I do, it's usually a green salad with some chicken or tuna.
The hypothermia bit makes sense though. I can't imagine the body breaking down fats so easily at lower temperatures.
The frustrating part is that I'm getting more muscular. I can now easily lift objects I used to find heavy and exert myself for longer periods... I'm just not getting slimmer :(

I do cycling and weight lifting, but play sport as well...
some people that go gym hav never heard of football or basketball, they never get any fun out of it...
Also keeping off the soft drinks and mostly drinking water has helped me loads and i can eat whatever i want...thansk for the link to that forum....+rep

If you are sitting around all the time working on your laptop it is tough to stay lean regardless of how much you are training at the gym. It`s weird but there are a ton of things you can do to maximize your diet even when you are sitting around, for instance:

Salads have a bad reputation because they are pretty boring. But I have actually put together these organic super salad concoctions that keep me fed, but allow me to skip that tired feeling a lot of cooked carb rich foods are notorious for. OF course that makes me more productive which = more $$$. Try and find a balance between cooked and raw and see what happens....

Anyways the point of all this is I am in front of my laptop alll day and have managed to drop down to under 10% body fat without spending all my free time on the treadmill....check out this link I just found:

That's Fit
