i have an idea for an iphone app and i see that there is an exact one already made.

how would it work if i made the developer an offer? or is this even possible?

ideally he would take his version of the app out of the app store so i could rebrand it.

Why remove? Just copy his code, rebadge and run both apps. You could have 2 different price points and see how it performs; that'd be interesting data.

I think you're going to have to reveal your hand first unless it's not making him much money in which case he might be willing to state a price. If he was actively shopping it around you'd be in a better position but every app developer thinks they're gonna be bought out for big $$$. Hard to get beyond that mentality.

Unless it is cheaper to buy him out.

interest data indeed.. app split testing

i know mgrunin had success developing an iphone app, he would probably be able to shed some light on the subject. but im sure its possible, it should be no different than buying a website or some other online asset.

first of all you need to contact apple and get registered at app store
then start developing apple apps, love apple :stonedsmilie:
