Ok guys a valuable lesson for everyone. In the past few weeks I have been doing some major PPC.

The problem is this, the clicks werent matching with my tracking system. My tracking system was giving me lesser counts compared to my PPC accounts. Which means I was paying for more clicks and not getting them. The problem was I was paying $2.80 per click and when I added it up I was loosing around $20 per day overall in lost clicks.

So I started making complains to google and yahoo etc and they were sure that it was my end and that the clicks they were sending was valid.

Well guess what it was my web host which was down and this means google and yahoo were sending the clicks but as my host was down the visitors got "Can not open page" error and my system was not registering the clicks

So I had to get a uptime web host monitioring.

By the way the host I am using is quite well known and a lot of people use their service but it seems that we dont even think about these things and if you have a high volume campaign you could be loosing alot of money overall which you are unaware of.

You could get free uptime monitoring from this now non-affiliate link and try it out and this could save you alot of money.

My mentor has a dedicated hosting and apparently this happens to him as well and he has a inbuilt monitoring.

Funny you should mention this right now. I personally am experiencing some issues with downtime right after setting up a new campaign.

Paying for wasted clicks aside, what does one do when dealing with this issue? Not knowing the extent of the downtime, I usually let it ride until things get back to normal but I'm afraid I will screw up my campaigns by pausing them when this happens.

Please, no smart ass "get a new host" responses as I am already looking but no matter who you go with, you will have the inevitable downtime issue to wrestle with from time to time.

Um yeah I learned this problem the hard way. I had blue host and they overload their servers so much that occasionally simple SQL queries would take multiple seconds to complete. Since I did a lot of SQL queries for tracking the occasional 2 second queries added up and they would shut my account down for 10 minutes at a time based on their slow SQL responses. Anyway it cost me probably thousands. So I ultimately recommend staying away from oversellers like bluehost and the like and especially once you start doing significant amounts of traffic.

I recommend going with someone like Media Temple, even their lowest priced shared option is plenty powerful and speedy enough to send lots of traffic through and the uptime has been great.

funny that, my hosting is with them atm lol

For heavy traffic sites use a VPS or dedicated server. Wired Tree is good for VPS "Managed" hosting.

Why not just set up the uptime monitor to open up a ticket at the host? It's the squeaky wheel that gets the greasin'.

Except for when it gets the boot.

ive been in the hosting industry for quite awhile and learned the hard way that you get what you pay for.

go pay the extra dollar for a vps (slicehost and liquidweb are great options) or go for your own dedicated server.

if you're a newbie, go with the shared hosting at liquidweb... they are stringent on their uptime and support is great.

WTF Why hasn't anyone mentioned that he directly linked to a product twice in his post with a tinyurl and that said product just happens to have a affiliate program.

Even if hes telling the truth his post smells of bullshit.

This is for real. I had the same issue, and turns out when you are on shared hosting, all it takes is one fuck to take the whole shitload down regularly and your host wont tell you. Can happen many times per day, or a few..but can make a profitable campaign sour real quick...

Yeah, this happened to me on Hostgator shared a few times. So i switched to inmotion Hosting (more $$). Still shared though. They actually shut down my sited once or twice b/c they said i was talking up too much space. The site they said was the issua was a phpBay wordpress site getting 100 visitors a day, so something seemed off there...

Bottom line, i'm thinking about going dedicated real soon. When your income relies on your sites being up, better safe than sorry...

Yeah.. nice links asshat.

But... wiredtree.com for the win... 60 bucks gets you a lot, its managed, fantastico and cpanel for all you database retards (me), 100% uptime for 2 months since i've been with them, replies to any tickets within 15 minutes 24/7 (nice when you live in Thailand and 3 pm is 3 am in america)..

If you don't need managed, though, go with linode.com. Fast and super inexpensive. Good uptime.

shared hosting is good for saving pictures of skittles on. dreamhost is what i use for all my shit sites and things i don't care about uptime on. uploading backups and my harddrive there is awesome too. uptime sucks

Without any affiliate links, or anything in it for me - I can honestly say that SoftLayer has taken care of me every step of the way (even through multiple DMCA complaints from cycle sites).

If you're thinking about going with a dedicated server, definitely give them a look, and be sure to keep an eye on their specials.

I always lower my budget below what I've spent so far for the day (ex. $1) for any campaign I want to pause. When I'm ready to start it up again, I just raise the budget back, and the campaign starts within 5-10 minutes with no harm done.

if a host shut me down over phpbay i would move instantly dude. btw, hostgator sucks. overselling and saturated servers, no real affiliates should be using them.

To clarify, anyone doing any sort of scaling would want a fat VPS at minimum. Dedicated if you really want the easy life.
