Weed decriminalized in CA.

I doubt anyone is in prison for personal possession of an ounce or less. Selling and possessing large quantities for sale are still illegal...

Dude.. no. I'm too lazy to find the numbers, but if you look it up you'll see that there are waaay too many Americans in jail for possession.

Land of the free? Yeah right.

Not officially since 2008 - it was upgraded to class B again.

Although most coppers probably can't be arsed to arrest you for it.

I dunno why they don't just legalize the bloody lot and tax it. It would help sort their budget out. I suspect that's what tipped the balance in CA.
Yeah the upgrading to class B still means it's only a confiscation, unless they feel nasty. The upgrading was mainly so they could hit dealers with higher sentences.

No matter what California passes, it's still a federal crime, so it's never going to be "legal".

Medical marijuana is technically not legal either. Yet that doesn't stop almost anyone who wants a prescription to get one without fear of being arrested. Since Obama became President the federal government does not prosecute medical marijuana users. I don't see why this would change especially if the vote passes by such a large margin. It would be political suicide for Obama to try and enforce federal jurisdiction over this law.

You can say that again. Federal crimes are so vague and numerous that just about every one of us Americans are criminals just waiting to be prosecuted, and most of us don't even know it.

lets not forget what the federal government did to Louisiana when they tried to keep the drinking age in their state at 18. That was a long time ago, but don't put it past the feds to do some ho ass shit like withholding funding for interstates.
