If you want to speak political ideals in general (like the lazyhippy), I'm all for it and actually love geographically diverse debating. When you show up with the specific agenda to get one of the candidates elected, it's called douchebaggery.
It's sad when everyone from Al Jazeera to Linus Torvalds publicly supports a candidate. When did this become someone else's country?
The funny part is that you guys think it's going to make a difference with our "nation building" policies. Then one day in 2011 you'll wake up and realize we've actually got more foreign bases than we did when GWB was in office and Afghanistan & Iran are wiped off the map.

My point is that if you guys would STFU and let us deal with our country, we might be able to avoid a worldwide economic meltdown (or at least make it short lived) ... as it stands we've got a free spender in office starting next year and he's going to rape and pillage the dollar into a deeper depression. I hope not, but I don't have much faith in a liberal's fiscal policy.

I really aint interested in it at all, and this is the first time I've commented in any of these political threads. The point is it's been on our news for the last 2 years, and will start again in another 2 (at a guess). It's just boring bullshit to most of us outside the US, yet we still get bombarded by it.
So thank fuck that's over for another 2 years.

But anyways, I'm amazed out how fast freerepublicers and whatnot turned their backs on McCain. The man they've been (apparently) acting like was a wet dream and supporting to obscenely vocal levels...now it's all blaming him and talking shit.

In all honesty when both me and my friend watched McCain's concessions speech, we thought the same thing: THERE's the McCain we could've voted for. What the hell happened to him. How the GOP runs their party is the issue. Not their candidate.
The republicans got fucked over by their neocon base. They're either going to have to shed the neocons and stop pandering to them(move towards center) or they're going to become seen as the "radical" party moving in the other direction, which is unelectable.

I kid you not, the run up to this election (when it first started to be talked about a bit) started between 18 and 24 months ago in England. The point is I know it's not every 2 years, that's just the amount of time we get a break for. Hey, I hate the world cup (football) for the same reason.
Not anywhere close to true. Indirectly it affects them but all the damage is done to our monetary system & our constitutional rights. It's the US citizens who have to pay for the bad choices of our leader. We also get to reap the benefits of the good ones, hopefully Obama can surprise me here.

But if that's the case, and your ok with people doing that, why not just make the tax rate 15% or 25% and get rid of write-offs and exemptions and then it can stop being a game of who pays what and who knows what loophole and everyone can feel safe they won't be raped by the government?
Just because some people know the loopholes, doesn't justify a 35-40 percent tax on certain people's money as a law.
Perhaps overstated. But it still affects their lives dramatically; to the point where they are justified in being vocal.
Maybe that was part of the problem then. Though I would say that the GOP failing to change course when using an obviously failing strategy(automakers yet again come to mind) would also be a large part of the issue. It's not that the 'media' conspired to keep the public at large from the same conspiracies that popeye rants about herre on a daily basis. The people had heard of them. But without support for those claims, it just came off as incoherent rambling, same as it did here. Too rarely did the gop talk about the benefits of their own candidate, and I feel that at least on a presidential level people are growing wise to smear campaigns. It just wasn't working, and the GOP's own supporters made them seem crazy and extreme.
That, combined with an apparent tethering of the 'real' John McCain that people like me could've actually voted for totally screwed them over. I was never afraid of McCain winning the presidential office because of him; I'm sure after the election he could've reverted to the respectable centrist he once was. I was afraid of him winning, dieing, and leaving office to Palin. That and I was disgusted with how much he changed in order to appease the hillbilly nutcases.

No, that would be like comparing apples and orangutans. I'm comparing US troops to Iraqi troops under Saddam Or Bush, Cheney, et al to Saddam if you prefer.
I know it's futile fighting beliefs with facts, but in 24 years Saddam was responsible for approx 600,000 civilian deaths, in just 5 the US led invasion has resulted in between 100,000 and 1,000,000. (100k documented.)

McCain was the last resort, the fall guy. Thats why Mitt Romney, Juliani, Hucklebee pulled out. They just showed up for publicity. Knowing after Bush its going to be hard to get elected. They tested the waters, and pulled out. People are tired of the same, and wanted change. But just like Obama said yesterday, change isn't coming overnight and maybe not even this term. After people figure out a politician is just a politician(even the mighty Obama will not change the world). A good Republican with actual economic and business experience will have a much better chance next term. I just hope its not to late by then.
