I like the flagging idea that Rage said. After a post has been flagged a few times it just disappears until a moderator sees it.

Oh maybe each member could have a ban button on their post and if they get that button pressed x number of times in x hours, they're insta-banned?

Being a non-native English speaker, I would give my vote to an entry test. This would, to write the least, help me differentiate myself from others who come from non-native English speaking regions and make a mockery of the language and other non-native speakers alike!
It would be a boon, personally speaking, for people like me!

Well...

as someone who came from a SEO / Search engine background, I had very little knowledge in the PPC / Affiliate MArketing area, so a test might have weeded me out.

So basically: Clueless noobs can become valued members.

As for the banning, the mods are already doing a good job, you only see what comes through. I ban several people every day (auto scripts selling phones most of the time) and I would guess the other mods do as well.

So now it is up to the community. If you feel someone should be banned, report the post.

Don't just sit there and whine and demand a test or a script or a forum extension to be made by someone.
Work with us, you can not demand shit from people who are modding on their own time for fuck all.

This is the way forward, but from the rules of engagement:

15- If you come across a post or thread that looks like it's in direct violation of any of our rules, please report it. There is a reporting icon next to every post, and an email will be dispatched to the entire moderator and admin team. This is the best way to fight against spammers or people who are trying to cause trouble. If you just ignore it, it may never go answered.
Also, when you click the report button, it says:

Note: This is ONLY to be used to report spam, advertising messages, and problematic (harassment, fighting, or rude) posts.
So the difficulty with the current reporting system is that is it doesn't really deal with people who are consistently being lazy/incompetent/moronic. The wording actually deters people from reporting these kind of posts.

The other problem is that many people are moronic *some* of the time, but otherwise may have some good questions, information or service (I put myself into this category). Some people might not even realise they're being moronic.

My suggestion is to install one of the existing AWARD systems such as this:
Yet Another Awards System - vBulletin.org Forum
Change the graphic to something bad instead of a star. Then we can report people for being idiots, and if the mods agree they can increase the 'award' by one 'star', which is shown in the users info-block.

If I see someone has four 'stars' already and makes another stupid post, I'd probably report it rather than posting an answer and saying 'please use search next time'. Mods could probably prune the forum using that flag too - at the end of each month just delete all those who reached five 'stars'.

I am all for something that locks down this community. It is a great place, but people who ask things like someone did today "Does Ryan Diess' new system work", those people should be flat out banned, no warnings no nothing, just ban them.

I think the easiest solution is increasing the number of messages required to post outside of the newb section. Combine that with something that leverages a user's reputation.

Encouraging banning/downvoting/flagging will initiate abuse. By forcing people to earn reputation to make their way out of the newb section, they will need to contribute to the community to earn it.

i'm all for this in a reasonable fashion. i think posting in specific sections should be a privilege, not a right you are given the second you sign up for a forum. for instance, if you sign up and want to contribute a worthwhile question or post to the SEO section, you should have to earn that right either by passing some test or some other measure. all newbie questions should be posted where they belond - in the newbie subforum. it's gotten to the point where the ratio of shitty, worthless posts compared to quality, informative posts is disgusting.

then again, this isn't my forum so that's just my two cents and that's all.

There should be a multiple choice question upon signing up.

What's your favorite marketing forum?

A) Digital Point
B)Warrior Forum
C)BHW
D)None Of The Above

I should mention as the OP, that I was more leaning toward moronic in the way jeewanic was touching on. Some people can't be bothered to write a legible sentence when asking for help, or complaining about shit -- None of us should have to strain our eyes to understand what should be...basic English. For instance, I've found that if I ask a question and put some thought into how I ask it/write it -- I always get polite responses.

When someone asks something that looks like it came out of a word scramble, that's just wasting people's time.

The wording of the "report post" feature is definitely discouraging for "dumb posts" because you don't want to irritate a mod by being irrelevant.

I'm not for a test really, I am for better forum moderation. Say a feature that allows a member over a few hundred posts to flag posts of those under a few hundred posts.

Unlike the "Report Post" we have now the post is automatically pulled until a Mod gives it the go ahead.

I'm for something like this.

An option for all threads created by someone with <100 posts for people with 500+ posts to vote, and if 3 of the 500+ ppl vote then the thread gets quarantined.

I like the idea but I think the member would also need to have positive rep to be able to vote for a thread quarantine. Otherwise you'd get an influx of idiots posting bullshit to get their post count up.

Not gonna happen, since most of the fucks around here love to see dumb-ass posts just to make fun of them, talk shit, post their .gif's, or their little quirky comments, this includes some mods.. you know who you are.

Some of the nerds here have a desire to act like thugs. The idiots that post here gives them that opportunity to be cool and feel better about themselves. This includes some mods here, you know who you are. They will never put in any "entry requirement" since there will always be that nerd that needs to feel cool/better about themselves so they will need the retard to post something stupid to call them out on.
