A good friend of the family had disc issues years ago. He went to a local hospital and had surgery. It didn't fix the problem. He went to Mayo and had surgery and that fixed the problem and as far as I know hasn't had any more trouble. My dad also had a disc problem, he would get intense pain in his leg and could barely walk. He flew to Denver to the hospital my aunt was a dr at and got it fixed there. It took him months before he could walk without a cane.
My wife has had the injections, and it was not something she would ever want to go through again. They give you and injection that hurts to help the injections hurt less. They use flouroscopy to hopefully get the injections in the right place. She had three a few weeks apart.
I don't know anything about them, but one of our hospitals can do the artificial disc surgery. If you get surgery only let an orthopedic surgeon do it.
Good luck. Hydrocodone may become your best friend.
