Guys- in light of recent legal and other activities brought to light regarding AM..it seems to me that possibly Wickedfire should become a private, invite only forum and no index format. Undoubtedly, legal entities and others use this forum for info gathering, and although most of us are legit and conduct business in an ethical and legal manner, some do not, and the image that seems to be transpiring is one that isnt going in a positive direction. Internet marketing is NOT an evil business as some seem to be trying to portray..

Thoughts..?

Making a forum private/invite only won't do anything to prevent legal authorities from gaining access. See every single "private" warez site ever.

I dunno, making it private would probably have the opposite effect. Will make people think "What do they have to hide"

Going private is actually a pretty good idea, ever hear of a private torrent site going down? Nope.

acai/grants/bizopps probably wouldn't have been a problem if WF didn't even exist. just sayin'

Are you from FBI?

Well if you want to think in those terms, then actually the large majority of people in this industry would still be getting fucked over by networks on a regular basis, most of you would be resorting to ewhoring, all you'd ever see are positive reviews and smiley faces galore when reading about networks. John Chow would be a trusted resource of information. And most of your industry friends wouldn't exist because we'd all be banned on all of the forums. And conferences would be boring.

But yeah, you're still wrong. Grants and bizopps have been around for a long fucking time. Acai was destined for greatness. Maybe flogs wouldn't have existed, and perhaps Facebook's and Myspace's ad platforms would have had way smaller success with earnings waaaaaaay lower than what they had...

There are private sections here. We're just too lazy to run them. Maybe when my replacement takes over at the end of the year he'll change things around and make things better for you?

Yeah, I figured wickedfire wasn't just here for those 3 industries...the shit i've learned on here would help any marketing professional worth his salt. Yeah the shit that happened sucks, but like everything i'm sure its just a phase, a shitty one, but still a phase. Will only temper the people who can learn and adjust from it.

You're right, but I hope to God that legal authorities have more common sense than to gather evidence from a forum like WF. I think the point of making it private would be to keep the Media morons out and I actually think that's a pretty good idea. Not to mention it would keep other morons out who don't belong here, lightening the load of people the mods end up banning anyway.

We saw the same thing in ringtones awhile back, and with grants back in March. Jon is right about the immense value of WF (we all know that), unfortunately this place is not a secret anymore and as a result every time the envelope gets pushed, lawyers and the FTC will push back pretty quickly (and pretty fucking hard) because they obviously spend as much time on here as we do...
