I don't know about anyone else, but after having my adsense drop by 50% over the last month or so and all the news of the bad economy we're in, I'm starting to think the recession is near...or here.

Let's say for sure we head into a recession... anyone have an idea of what areas might be good to focus on to stay alive? I've got a few guesses to start off with, but would love to hear more. So... here I go.

Drinking
Gambling
Entertainment, movies, music... stuff like that while depressed
Food - ya gotta eat
Money saving stuff - coupon sites?
How to make money

Any thoughts out there?

If anyone plays in the stock markets. Take a look at AFCE, Pop Eye's Chicken and Biscuits, I recently made a decent chunk of change on it. Yahoo finance doesn't show a chart on it for some reason, so pull up quote history. It's at like a 5 year low, and the company seems to be turning around. Their stores are pretty nice, food is good, and when times get tough, people want to eat Fried Chicken and Biscuits (it seems). Anyone agree?

lol...mmmm mmm mm.. chicken and biscuits! I'll look into that...

I suppose other areas might be guns and ammo?
gas prices will rise so maybe there will be moola in that somehow?

Most importantly..what areas on the web will remain in good shape I wonder?

Funereal directors (And all the things to do with that)

Not so sure about:
Entertainment, movies, music... stuff like that while depressed
I'd say that was more of a luxury and people will want to tighten up and not spend moeny on unnecssesary stuff e.g. going to the movies.

credit repair/credit reports, legal, payday loans, debt consolidation, healthcare, and IMO dating. More unemployed people = more free time = desperate.

Hahahhaa, oh yeah. I wouldn't correlate a drop in adsense revenue with the condition of the US economy.

I respectfully disagree... since Google gets a huge chunk of revenue from publishers, I fully expect their stock to keep dropping. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say their stock will be around $150/share later this summer... or lower.

You know, one industry in there got me thinking today. they mentioned "cosmetics". Then I thought about all of the poor saps who have wives who drain every dime they make and thought there probably is a lot of truth to this. Stick with industries that women love... all the kooky crap they buy to decorate their homes, make up, clothes, purses, shoes and on and on...

I know at least a couple years ago this guy for sure is a six figure blogger. Could be a girl behind it or?

Anything related to "How to......" because when people are broke, they don't have money to pay others to do stuff.

How to cut ________ costs by ________

Take any industry and figure out how it changes with the economy.
ex: Real Estate
good economy-house buying info
bad economy-house renting and rent to own info

Things related to caring for the aged. People are living longer and will continue to do so with modern medicine. The thing is they need more care as they age.

If your price estimate is 150 or lower. Cut their PE in half and then some, at that PE ratio this stock would be incredibly undervalued. It won't happen. Im willing to bet you $1K. I did just sell my shares this morning though, not because I think its going to drop lower, but I wanted to make some bank on the pop this morning, and I'm buying a new car.

Regardless of a recession or not.. Know this. I will bet that the internet gets more ad spending even with people predicting it to level out during a recession. Why? Because it's a no brainer. Everything that businesses spend cash on for advertising in the offline world, such as TV, billboards, radio, newspapers, direct mail, can now be targeted online, plus with the internet marketing and internet advertising campaigns, you can take the same offline budget, and get WAY more bang for your advertising buck. The best part of all, is that the advertisers can track the campaign down to the actual point of sale or action. Unlike traditional offline advertising, the only real way to track conversions or actions was with a promo code the user would have to either remember or save, and many came with expiration dates.

So if you're looking for a specific market, just look at anything that's B2C or B2B that spends a lot online now in advertising, because as the recession moves closer, those industries will be pouring even more cash into the internet than they were before, when things were cheaper.

I would say this is even more true in a recession. Not handing over cash(credit card), plus not immediately receiving an item gives the illusion of not having purchased anything. Less guilt.
For example, I am much more likely to paypal someone $60 for a landing page or somethin than I am to hand $60 in cash over to a guy in my form hall for tyher same thing. The cash stings more.
