The problem with my last one was that I got a 17'' and for some reason I had to re-zoom(re-adjust) almost every freaking web page I went to individually. It was really annoying. Every web page was either too big or too small. I played with resolutions, increasing text size in Windows 7, etc. and nothing helped.

I don't play games or movies, I just work meaning text processing and web surfing. Also, I'm somewhat short-sighted so I need my text bigger.

Any suggestions on what size monitor I should get, what resolution to use or any other suggestions?

I dont get it. You want a laptop or a desktop monitor?

I need to buy a laptop. There's a type of laptops called "desktop replacement" because they have extra-wide screens. This is the type I'm considering buying.

PC world compared Desktop Replacements this month... Alienware didn't get close to the top for once, but I can't remember the name of the best pick... Perhaps an Apex?

(It would help if laptop names didn't look like "XJ48k3zdc3kj-2")

Not your answer but check out Acer TRAVEL MATE, oh god the laptop is sexy, I want to have sex with it.

I don't care how good a laptop is, it will never be a "desktop replacement." Just go spend $500 and get a kickass rig with a 24" display. Fuck laptops. If you need something for portability, get something really portable like an Ipad or netbook.

Not sure what your budget is like. Here's a few that I can recommend:

1) 17" Macbook Pro with 1920x1200 resolution screen. Install Windows 7 on it and you're away at the races.

2) HP Envy 17. Seen some complaints about overheating, but the one I used recently was pretty badass. Sounds like a jet taking off if you start gaming on it.

3) Toshiba Qosmio X500 series. I have an older Qos X300 series and it's still going great after a couple of years. The battery is basically useless on it though.

Honestly if you have a couple of grand to blow on this desktop replacement, get the 17" Macbook Pro. Regardless of whether or not you like Apple, you have to admit the design is slick as fuck, and the battery life is very good on it. Personally I can't stand OSX but I have no trouble running Windows on my Macbook Pro.

Good luck to ya

22 or 24 inches desktop or laptop..works better..i guess...auto config it

Just shut up. Seriously.

As for the desktop replacement laptop, you already had a 17" screen that would have at least been 1280 x 1024 I'm guessing. That should have been perfectly fine for viewing all websites unless for some reason your weren't running it in it's native resolution, in which case everything would have looked fucked up. In relation to your visual problems the best solution is to still run a 24" 1920 x 1080 or 1920 x 1200 resolution monitor.
