We've been getting a lot of people, new and old members posting in the wrong sections constantly, and it is a pretty big pain in the ass to constantly have to move things around all the time...

So do you guys think we should consolidate the majority of the sections together into one big section and only have a few sections left?

Any ideas on what sections should be merged together into one main one, and what new sections should be created to manage topics so no one gets confused anymore?

I'd like to have as few sections as possible. Also figure, if more sections are merged, you'd have a lot more activity going on with responses and a lot more people viewing threads they may not have stumbled onto before (those damn lurkers!).

Ah well.. you guys tell me what you think.

PS - We're removing the top sections and only launching them back up when they are done (minus the directory and forum buttons).

2 sections.

Shooting The Shit
Making Money

Buy Sell Trade turns into the 'Market', whenever that is released.

From what I remember, what we had at launch worked well.

I say consolidate like Joe suggested. If people need to find something, that's what the search button is for.

Here's are my suggestions:
  1. STS
  2. IM/SEO/Content/etc. (pick whatever cute names you want)
  3. Design/Programming/Hosting
  4. Newbie Section (As long as there is content to put here [and there seems to be], this should be a good place to send everyone to start - that's why I would keep it separate. I wouldn't expect too much new content because there are only so many newb questions. Done right, this could be an awesome resource. Good luck to the organizer/thread mover!
  5. Marketplace (only if it's totally hot)
Okay, so maybe this is set up how *I* would want it. :D Just be careful because if there are just two or three sections, posts will fall off the first page pretty fast without being answered and then people will start the annoying, nasty habit of bumping threads.

Here's my reasoning: Some of us know how to make money, but we don't know the behind the scenes stuff well (IM section). Others are great coders and designers, but they are shaky on the money making part (design section). Those who are blessed to be both can jump back and forth. :)

My 2 cents. :tongue2:

at this juncture, might i suggest adding a X post and over club in there somewhere? wicked fire has seen a huge influx of lazy, annoying noobs that are clogging legitimate posts by legitimate members.

Post count doesn't mean much of anything...
I mean look at my post count and I'm as worseless as it gets.

EDIT:

Cutting down the # of forums works for me, I only use new posts and search anyway...

I agree with both these points. Exclusivity for high post counts just encourages clutter. I also only use the "New Posts" button at the top since there isn't enough action to check individual sub-forums.

if you really think the current categories need to be changed I'd say more or less as Laura wrote
  1. STS
  2. IM/Content/etc.
  3. Traffic/SEO
  4. Design/Programming/Hosting
  5. Newbie Section
  6. Marketplace

Yeah confine newbies to STS and Newbie Section until they have x posts or x days as members. That'll reduce alot of threads in wrong locations as well as dupe posts.

Remember to include in the newbie section the tutorial about posting boobs that was made necessary thanks to the famous thread by gladi8tor

Consolidate them all. I just go to most recent posts. I don't have time to look at inactive posts section by section because they most like are not active for a reason. If I need to reasearch. Use search.

No newbie section!! Fuck them! make them suffer at DP or SP or other shitty forum for a few months like the rest of us haha
