To do my Personal, Corp, and books, my guy wants to charge me around $1500.

Does that sound like a normal number for a good CPA? What do you guys pay?

PHP:

I pay something around that, cant remember exact numbers. He has saved me well more than what he charges. A good CPA is a must have.

Mine charges a little bit more than that. He does quarterly payroll in addition to personal and corp. taxes. He does not do any bookkeeping.

So I guess it is reasonable as long as you are happy with the service.

For strictly YE tax prep/filings (I handle my own bookkeeping & quarterly payroll/filings), my CPAs have averaged:

* $150-$450 for personal
* $450-$500 per corporation

.

For including your books that sounds fair unless you don't have many transactions.

I paid $1300 for my partnership LLC, Personal LLC, and personal taxes. Books were already done

$125/mo for bookkeeping from Bench.co

How is Bench.co working out for you?

I actually recently talked to them and am going to be doing their free trial.

I'm using Wave and it is actually very little work to do bookkeeping myself with the way that Wave is setup, although Wave is being really derpy with Paypal imports recently.

So I've been looking at Bench, but I'm not sure if I want to spend $325+/mo with them.

Also curious about Bench.co...

I'm using Shoeboxed.com and they give you this personal email that you can forward your receipts to, and they even have a smartphone app to scan receipts at restaurants/hotels, etc... all for like $30 a month.

It think this year I paid like $700 or so for personal and business taxes with bookkeeping already done, so if your number includes book keeping it's probably about right.

Its been all over the place.

I've ranged some years from $800 - $1200 for all my taxes ( personal and biz combined ) with no bookkeeping/accounting ( I did all the work ).

Last year I paid $200 b/c I changed up who I used. I'm doing all the bookkeeping and double checking all the numbers going in and out, I just need someone to file them correctly for me and answer a few basic questions I have.

The place I was spending $800-1200 a year on never did anything for me like try to save me money on my taxes or suggest things I could do. They also messed one of the years up bad enough I got a mail-in audit from the IRS.

I'm not huge on deductions or rerouting my money, but the shop I paid $200 last year caught several things I could be doing and deductions the more expensive place didn't catch.

One important note about Bench is that they only support a single currency for all accounts. So if you're like me and have a USD PayPal and a CAD bank account you are out of luck.

$1500-$2000 it depends on how many transactions have taken place. There is a per line charge (the same firm does both my book keeping and year end)

this

I went to sign up for their service after it being mentioned in this thread, got all my accounts set up and then my sales rep told me that I was shit out of luck because I do business in 4 different currencies.

On a side note, I pay my CPA $2500-$3000/year for all of my taxes, tax planning and consulting. Doesn't include books :(

They're pretty good. They have a direct link to my bank accounts and paypal account. All I have to do is upload month-end statements for Paypal to my dashboard.

You get a dedicated bookkeeper/accountant and a nice looking income statement & balance sheet every month. They basically do all the categorization on their own, but will drop you an e-mail if they have a question.

I got 1-month free, a price reduction from $125 to $90 for the next three months, and 20% off "catch-up" work for Jan-June.
