What facebook could look like...



Facebook was all the rage a few years ago when I was a college freshmen. I remember I used to be obsessed with this shit.

Now, I'm rarely on it. It's pretty much just my contacts list now. I don't like talking on the phone too much so if I need to get in touch with somebody, FB it is.

That being said, I love that redesign. Kind of too open, but I'm digging the live feed ticker on the bottom.
 
have to remember, the average user is by no means a design expert. this layout you put in the OP is hard for the eyes to follow due to lack of contrast - harder to tell where controls are, might take a little longer to spot things. a few of the ideas like the calendar, directed posts, etc are good though. but the design itself doesn't lend itself to layperson usability (nor to advertiser friendliness for that matter)

Exactly. I like that this guy has unleashed his creativity and just gone with it, and it is a beautiful design but what's the usability like? It looks to me that with the lack of contrast and definition, and the scrolling top shit that he's sacrificing a lot of practicality for beauty here.

One of the most impressive things about FB is it's (relative) easy of use. My gf, mom, gran can all use FB to some degree - would they be able to use this as easily? Not sure.

Very pretty though!
