What happens when you get stressed? How do you fix it?

When I become extremely stressed my eyes will narrow - it looks like anger even when it isn't. My personal favorite way to deal with stress is to evaluate the problem and get to work right away to solve it. The best way to deal with stress is to destroy what's causing it. Don't procrastinate and let the stress eat away at you.

I also enjoy weed and smoke it pretty much all day everyday. This helps, as long as you are still focused and can work well while high. I know way too many people who smoke herb to escape from their stress, without ever dealing with it, and it just leads to more problems and more stress.

Also exercising releases endorphins and increases testosterone. I've noticed I'm a lot more laid back and confident in the face of stress since I've started running 30 minutes every morning.

I'm actually writing a paper that touches on this topic right now. It's for a Philosophy class about Humor and Laughter. Basically, humor/laughter is a great way to cope with stress. Everybody experiences pleasure when theyre laughing, and you basically black out from the rest of your emotions while you're doing it - detaching and relaxing. Physiologically or biologically, whichever is correct, it's great because your body actually releases some of it's own natural drugs like endorphins, which will help deal with your stress.

Maybe this is why many of you say that smoking weed helps you deal with stress? Maybe it helps you better appreciate humor, possibly even find more things humorous than you normally would? I don't know. If I were stressed out and I were to smoke I would most likely end up freaking out even more than I were before. I tend to get lost in my thoughts over-analyzing shit, which is generally not bad, doesn't help anything when you're focused on whatever is stressing you out.

I can do the body high weed, but the super strong shit makes me a lunatic.

Here's what I use

Kava Kava tea
Xanax
BJJ/Heavy Bag
Running

Anything that takes your focus off of what's bothering you and helps you lose yourself works well, imo. I have a friend who swears by pottery.

Recognize the stress. It becomes a problem when you avoid/push it away and then manifests itself later in random outbursts, etc. Simply allowing it to be there and realizing that the stress is something appearing within your consciousness will suffice. In other words, the stress (or whatever you want to call it) is self created. It isn't real. Yes, the problem itself may be very real, but your thoughts/reactions/responses are merely illusions. Realizing this allows you to deal effectively with the problem without having to create all the drama to put it on a pedestal. This is basically meditation in a nutshell. Simply being here and now and responding appropriately.

You may think I'm full of shit, but it's worth a try. Also, as others said above, hitting the weights or running until you can't feel your fucking legs or do another rep can cripple strees by brute force alone. Peace.

Agreed. I'd be willing to bet that I'm not the only one who frequently checks out the Shooting the Shit forum as a way of "lose[ing] your[my]self". Yet another way that Wickedfire has improved the lives of us internet junkies...

Meditate. Meditation is like pushing a reset button on your current mindset. Meditation feels so good once you get into the loop. This is my default "go to" choice.

If something is pissing me off due to a certain event that happened, I write the thoughts that go through my mind to try to make sense of what happened, and resolve it accordingly.

I unwind with ma bunch of best buddies.. we go clubbing and drink to our heart's content. :D

BOFU: I usually bring the laptop into the bathroom, turn on some music and I can "feel" and just sing/flow with, and turn the screen brightness down to 3 of the lowest settings.

A romantic night at the bathroom with bofu and his laptop.

Up until I turned 30, I dealt with stress by drinking and doing cocaine every day. While these things tend to reduce stress in the immediate, they actually increase stress over time.:disgust: I no longer drink alcohol or use drugs but I do find that meditation and exercise help me significantly. The cumulative effects of stress can not be overstated.

Listen to Reggae music while lifting weights, pump hard and release my anger.
Sometimes i find time to play basketball , its very effective for me to take away stress.
Because when I enjoy myself I just forget all of the problems even for a while.
