The very problem is that, the US government relied on Libyan security forces to protect the US diplomats in Libya.

As this is the case, in so many countries, there should have been US marines to secure the US embassy and its staff.

+ a quick exit, helipad you name it.

After 911 and all the other terrorist attacks on the world, not just the USA, you have to be inhuman not to be a bit jaded with arab muslims since the news shows the world all of the violence. Sure it's a minority that kill, rape, mame and bring terror, but it's a consistent activity and I don't see non violent arab muslims coming forward in droves condemning these acts, and maybe it's just the media, but this minority seems to be huge, ie worldwide. Imagine if another religion consistently had a faction that was terrorizing the world...I imagine that church or religious leaders stepping forward and denouncing the actions of that minority..but who knows.
All this killing and violence in the act of religion? Anyone who believes it is just and right to kill others who disagree with their religion is taking the human race back to the stone ages, and some would argue they are asking for the same violent acts come to them. Golden rule- treat those as you would be treated and vice versa.
Imagine if Christianity, Catholicism, and Judaism et al all believed that one should be killed instantly if they spoke in an unfavorable light about those religions? We WOULD be back in the stone ages then (see crusades).
