Whats up with walmart???

WalMart is fucking stupid. I heard they were doing this at the WalMart near me starting on the 1st and I forgot about it til I shopped there after the first. I carried all my shit out by hand. It's a pilot program and I won't be shopping there to protest. Hopefully others will do the same so sales drop and they realize it shouldn't be implemented at other stores. They need to realize who their customers are and cater to them. Welfare recipients and cheap mother fuckers trying to save a buck could care less about the environment for the most part and if they really do, they bring their own bags. You would think that with all of WalMart's money, they would develop some proprietary additive that makes their bags biodegradable AND recyclable or just use Reverte. Or better yet, add .05% to the price of everything and offer paper bags. No one will notice the price hike.

As you can tell, I am pretty pissed about it as well. It's good though because Target has similar prices and all the hot ass women shop there and they're all dying to fuck.

Indirectly responsible. Been triple bagging everything for years, takes a lot of plastic bags to get a good tire fire burning.

Bad move by walmart especially during a recession. There are A LOT of middle class and below just struggling to be able to buy the basic foods let alone pay 5 cents per bag. This is what you get though when you let a company take over the whole market as many rural places throughout the midwest have only a walmart and no other grocery stores since they were ran out of business years ago. Walmart is another company using the environment justification when in all reality they could give a shit less they will just make a profit from it because if they really cared they would give the recyclable bags for a certain period and then do away with bags period like Aldi's and Costco is about to do.

They sell bags for 5 cents each in Toronto, to help a promoter a "greener environment".

(Mother fuckers charging us for everything now ...)

You should load up a wagon train of carts w/ stuff, and then walk out when they try to charge you for the bags. Of course it would be my luck that I'd get to the register and find out that I'm in a store that doesn't charge for the bags.

I like it. What better way to get the demographic that shops at walmart to start bringing in their own bags? I like the green bags, they are stronger and hold more anyway. The only thing that annoys me is I forget to bring them in from the car alot.

There are billions of plastic shopping bags everywhere, and we're not good at managing them as trash. They blow up to the trees and get stuck there, and ride with the wind like tumbleweed. When they get into the water, they choke marine animals who ingest them.

This is a form of trash that we could manage with less of if we try a little. Remember, plastic products are manufactured from petroleum, making it an environmental and political issue. I reuse them to line trash cans, so I don't buy plastic can liners at least.

Yeh i'm not shopping their as well. Funny you mention Target, the stores response to me "WTF we have to pay for bags now" was yeh even target is doing it now.... lol

I agree completely. It just bugs me that they're trying to sell this as "let's save the environment", when all they're looking for is another revenue stream.

If they really cared about the environmental benefit, they'd drop the plastic bags altogether and either go to paper bags, or force everyone to bring their own.

Walmart stole this idea from me. I was going to revolutionize soda vending machines around the world by using less metals. $1 gets you a 12 oz soda but you have to bring your own cup from home. Pay an extra $.50 if you want it in the can.

The green angle is probably just an excuse to be stingy with bags, read "The Wal-Mart Effect" those motherfuckers know how to get blood out of a stone. And they won't just implement a price hike that no one will notice because cost cutting/low prices is the one and only goal they have.

it's the same bullshit in hotels - "please reuse your towels, it's good for the environment" aka DOING LAUNDRY IS EXPENSIVE

lotsa places in canada make you pay for bags, it's been like that for a long time now.

so i buy those UBER green "reusable" bags for $1.00 and end up throwing them out and buying new ones every time, which is probably 5x worse for the environment. but i'm fucking lazy, so c'est la vie.
