When did you start SEO

I've been on the internet since the dawn of the web. Only recently I took interest. I wish I did before, I might be in a different place.

I'm curious, when did you first start in SEO. And I mean a serious interest for monetization purposes.

Also: How and What got you interested?

For me: I read an article by some Gardner lady in Revenue mag where she was saying how with a publisher strategy you can set the business on autopilot for a few weeks and travel. I LOVE travelling. So i looked into publishing, blogs and PPC. Seo is part of the package.

Travelling when and I want and where i want is the Holly Grail of success for me.

I remember Altavista.

and I thought metacrawler would be the end of all the new search engines.
I am researching SEO to drive traffic to some sites I have formulating in my mind. I think SEO could eventually be an essential skill for everyone. So hopefully some breakthrough comes along soon.

I remember webcrawler and the good old spider logo. Too bad I didn't began developing sites back then.

Probably about the time I started KingBloom.Com (which at that time was a web/graphic design and site design company. Around 94-95ish....

Of course at that time there was NO google. Heck, we were using Lynx and Mosaic. Netscape 1.0 had just begun to eek onto the seen. Those were the days.

Blinks tags and myspace looking ugly sites. The wayback machine does not even seem to register that far back: Internet Archive Wayback Machine

Though I think may have had one of those ISP /names, like, http://myisp-name.com/~kingbloom. Then it was kingbloom.mia.net and so on....

I have started learning SEO in 2004. My first book was "Search Engine Optimization for Dummies" by Peter Kent. That was a great start and made me learn a lot more since then.
