When the .COM is not availble?

I personally prefer the .org extension when the .com isn't available, however, you will find that the majority will look for a workaround (like a '-' or something) to get the .com, or go with the .net.

As far as value is concerned, the .net is preferred over the .org, for the most part.

I hope that the .org will make a push to eventually surpass the .net and the .de for the second spot behind the .com, but for now, the majority prefer the .net over the .org, and majority speaks.

If SEO is what you're concerned about, either one doesn't really matter. It's more a matter of user memorability than it is about search engine ranking. Users are more likely to remember and/or type in a .com than they are the .net or .org.

If your only concern is seo, then flip a coin between the two.

If the domain you have in mind (the one that caused you to make this topic) isn't extremely descriptive of the niche you're going after, then just find another not-so-descriptive .com domain like the others have said. Simple as that.

Right. As far as SEO, the .tld doesn't matter.

If you want to flip the website later, purchasers favor the .com

If I'm building a niche mini site, then I don't care about the TLD I either go with .COM then .NET then .ORG then if all of those are taken just the cheapest TLD. However if this site means more to you than a few bucks a day, I'd only go with a .COM.

he fact that its new has to effect on negative the SEO ranking?

We bought the name two months ago, so I can't tell so far. The niche is quite specific, anyway, so there is a little traffic.

What I meant to say is that, as it seems, Google doesn't make difference between a .com or a .biz, although it is known that it gives preference to a .gob over a .com

Does this help?

Not sure what a .gob is...but if you mean a .gov - they do not give preference to any TLD's.

.gov and .edu seem to rank better because they generally have better backlinks.
