i am computer shopping and i want to buy a wicked monitor. one with the lowest possible dot pitch, a very high contrast ratio, and it must be LCD/flat 19 or 20". Are there any good online sources for this?

I wasnt really impressed with best buy/future shop just because some of their contrast rations are misleading (they show the dynamic ones).. i'm willing to spend $500-$800.

thanks

quick tip about buying flat panels from newegg if i may.
check to see if your local ups or fedex(whatever your going to ship with) is a "ground office" or an "air office" before you buy. then ONLY use that method of shipment for any type of flat panel monitor you buy through them. I'm not saying this just out of a bad experience or two, i'm speaking with lots of experience. Just trust me on this.

If you're lucky enough to have a Fry's Electronics nearby, definitely check them out. Back when I used to live in California, Fry's was always the first place I'd hit when needing new hardware. Second choice is to try any of the electronics comparison shopping engines online so you can see which online vendor has which model.

I HATE FRY'S!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
everytime i go there i come back broke as hell with drool all over my shirt.

wtf is wrong with dell? their monitors are cheap, good quality, free shipping, and come with 3 yr warranties. Anyone that get a LCD from somewhere else needs their head examined...

can you elaborate on the newegg shipping thing?

its really long but i'll give you the gist of it. According to new eggs return policy they won't consider a return for a monitor/television until it has been inspected. It must be inspected with the ups or fedex person that returned it present, they also won't inspect it immediately it gets put in a queue for inspection. Get this, the ups and fedex guys are not allowed in that particular building! This where the real catch-22 happens. If the local ups or fedex office is an air shipping office and you shipped ground or visa versa, they can still ship and recieve both, but their particular branch is designated torwards one of the two, than the item can only be inspected by either corporate or by the shipping location(newegg because its independant, which means it basically has its own dedicated ups and fedex department just to helping them). So if you ship the product back to newegg or the fedex/ups department that handles newegg, than the product just got shipped TWICE. Therefore it can't be determined whether the product busted while newegg shipped it or when you shipped it. NO REFUND FOR YOU! You can request a pickup inspection from them but guess what they do after they pick it up...wait a day and drop it right back off with a note to call corporate.

So it creates this big catch-22 thats impossible to get around. The only way to get the product replaced if it gets damaged shipping to you(i've had at least 30 get broken in the last three years), is to go to your local fedex/ups store with it and the original packaging and your claim filed with coporate and if you shipped with the same method they are(they ship air and you got it shipped with air or visa versa) than THEY can inspect your package and give you the shipping insurance refund directly. No need to reship it someplace else :)
