White sorority wins black dance competition. Tournament reconsiders. WTF?

yeah this is stupid as hell. if they won it, let them keep it. racist bullshit.

also zeta tau alpha is a sorority, so white heterosexual females, but close enough

lol, it kind of made the confetti a little anticlimactic.

I'm curious to know if the judges were young black people, or white men in suits representing Coca Cola, or what. If there were black people on the panel then the crowd can GTFO.

lol@this commment on Youtube:

The brothas were high fiveing when the white girls came out. The sistas were booing. Nuff' said!

Cultural Theft - my ass.

Now a white Arkansas team's win in an Atlanta step competition has started a fiery debate over the African-inspired tradition and whether the integration of a once-ethnically exclusive activity constitutes a form of cultural theft.

CULTURAL THEFT??? REALLY???

Yes this situation is fucked up, but if you take a step back and look at it from a marketing standpoint (not sure why nobody on this marketing forum has done so) it makes a lot of sense business wise:

Coke sponsored this contest to market to black people. Since a white team won, they can't then use that winner as a marketing tool for their target demo in this situation, so they added a second winner (and paid them all scholarships too). Their marketing campaign was based completely around them being able to have people associating them in their minds with giving scholarships to black students, and they just couldn't do that with no black winning team.

Completely fucked up, but it's pretty obvious, to me anyway, that it wasn't some exec saying "lets let black people have their own thang yall".

Coke doesn't have the best record with race relations either. They're probably just trying to keep everyone happy at this point and hoping everyone won't remember their past behaviors.

why does the black team even need a scholarship? You just check african american on your college app and the NAACP throws grants at you faster than hell.

That sort of reverse racism really sucks. I remember when i went into the financial aid office the first time to see what kind of grants I can get going into college without a single dollar to my name and no help from the parents or scholarships. My counselor brought out three HUGE heavy books filled with grants I could apply for. Sat down and looked at my app. Said, "let me see 18 year old white male with no kids and no income or parent loans..........*blank stare*...*puts books under her desk*...we got a pell grant you can apply for...that'll probably take care of your first term worth of books....*blank stare*"

And thats how a counseling meeting that was supposed to last 4-7 hrs turned into 7 mins.
It's very frustrating to be told that because of your race, sex and age you have more opportunities then everyone else then you look in your pockets and find nothing but lint. I see how its easy for people to misdirect that frustration towards the race when they should be directing it at the system that enables it because facts be faced if I was a 18 yr old native american woman I wouldn't turn down a single dollar either. Hell i'd play the game the whole way and be like fuck you whitey! And if a big company like Coke came in wanting to give me a scholarship because I was black and fit some sort of demographic I'd be pissed to if a white chick won it. I may not be pissed at her for it or want to play the race card but for 100k I'd sure as hell pretend to be.

Thats a mean fucking crowd, they sorta cheered for 3rd place, they booed a bit for 2nd place and then went nuts at 1st place. Either they are bastards or they saw it coming if there was only 3 teams.

Whats also fucking stupid is if you watch the videos of the white girls on stage the crowd is all cheering and yelling like they love it.

For some reason you made me think of old time sports when all the basketball players and football players were white and how they are now. All the white fans are not angry at black players, if your good at the sport then you should be accepted. Its going to be funny shit if the world finds out that white girls are better at steppin. Basically if black people love steppin so much it shouldn't matter if white girls are the best at it. Their marketing could still be based on skill and talent not skin color.

""Good Job but let the Black folks have their own thing for once!!!" wrote one commenter posting under the name "titetowers" who said the Zeta Tau Alpha team did well but should not have won."

So basically, they don't care about rewarding the best, only rewarding the best black. Cool, why don't we do that in all traditionally 'white' sports now? Only reward the best white - I mean, cmon let us white folks 'have our own thing for once!'
