Who do you like for hosting?

LiquidWeb's managed hosting is great. I've had a dedi with them for more than 3 years and they'll pretty much do anything I ask of them in a reasonable time frame. They recently gave me a free RAM upgrade. Before this I was with Rackshack > EV1 > The Planet > Softlayer. Also been with SingleHop, 1Web, and Netnation over the years but none have been as good as LiquidWeb.

If your sites are static, check out Amazon S3.

just don't make this guys mistake

When I woke up the next morning, I had four emails from Amazon AWS and a missed phone call from Amazon AWS. Something about 140 servers running on my AWS account. What? How? I only had S3 keys on my GitHub and they where gone within 5 minutes!

Turns out through the S3 API you can actually spin up EC2 instances, and my key had been spotted by a bot that continually searches GitHub for API keys. Amazon AWS customer support informed me this happens a lot recently, hackers have created an algorithm that searches GitHub 24 hours per day for API keys. Once it finds one it spins up max instances of EC2 servers to farm itself bitcoins.

Boom! A $2375 bill in the morning. Just for trying to learn rails.

go for hostgator, they have been in buszines for long time and you can trust them more than other sharehosting
but i go with vps

I prefer Hostgator. I have used them for over 7 yrs now and havent had a problem with them once. They offer great customer service and the cpanel is user friendly.

they used to offer good customer service. My last service ticket took them 3 days to reply. And the only reason they replied at all was because I escalated it. Used to be almost instant, certainly that day.

I'll never understand why people cheap out on hosting. This is your fucken livelihood we're talking about. Quit looking to save pennies, and get setup with a proper host & server.

I use Dedicated Servers | Dedicated Server Hosting | Linux Dedicated Servers | Windows Dedicated Server myself -- I don't really have a reason to be with them, but don't have a problem either. They're definitely charge above market rates, but I've never had an issue that wasn't resolved within 30 mins. Then the only reason I stay with them is because I've been with them for years, so it's just easier... having a multi-year relationship with your host tends to make things like getting new boxes online easy and painless.

Heard good things about RamNode and vultr. Also if it's a local site I'll typically go with something shared on an IP right in the city/town.

HostGator is just a reseller of servers from SoftLayer, Ace Data and Cyrus One (which one you get is random). They also resell CloudFlare services. So why would you want to go with a reseller and not go directly with the service providers themselves? That doesn't make any sense. Why the middle man?

I smell HostGator schils.

all shared hosting are crap including hostgator
but I have seen many IM website hosted on hostgator
ofcourse its better to go with a VPS or DEDI server in a more reputable providers... the more u pay the better service u get

i prefer fatbat and golan. they are very supporting for my needs. also their hosting quality is great. they fulfill every kind of personalized requests too.

I recently got fucked over hard with a host, made me lose a ton of money with all the downtime. Incompetent staff that just tells me to fill out support tickets than replys 45 minutes later with some generic dribble.

I've never been so mad before.

Shelled out some money for a liquidweb dedi, from talking to them so far they seem a lot better than the host I'm with now.

Do you only have one hosting account? I have accounts all over the place. There is "expensive" hosting for stuff I can't afford to have problems with. Then there is mid priced stuff like vps for stuff I care about but not as critical. And then you get into the cheap hosting for churn and burn type "work".

There is no one size fits all. So I guess it all depends on what you're trying to accomplish.

I have a good number of accounts. This post isn't to find the cheapest; I just don't want to miss out on a good host because I haven't gone shopping in a while.

Thanks. I've been seeing the hostgator offers for year but something always smelled funny about them.
