Who here is in Chiang Mai, Thailand

Anyone have any recommendations for Samui? All the ones I'm finding are pretty crazily priced ($5k+ mo) for a 1br.

$5K USD a month for a 1 bedroom is insane. I don't have any direct experience with renting an apartment in Koh Samui, but that is just outrageous. Last time I visited Koh Samui was ten years ago.

Checkout local expat forums for better prices.

5K USD is even more than what I will be paying in Singapore when I return next month...

I am paying 10K Baht a month for a basic studio apartment (with sea view) just outside of Pattaya. The area isn't as nice as Koh Samui, but has better infrastructure and you can easily travel to other parts of SEA.

I would hate to have to pay 200 USD RT Samui to BKK anytime I wanted to take an international trip...

5k USD?

I saw nice places for 150-750 USD monthly when I was there but can't recall any names.

Working on getting there, but as with everything, it's taking longer than I'd like. Need to get my income a little higher first.

I plan to live extremely nicely when I move, but only want my base living costs to be 5 - 10% of my income. I'm hoping in another two months, I'll be there. Until then, I'm keeping myself stuck in the swampland, working.

$5k+ mo?? is it huuuuge? lol. drop that contact and go with a local expat forum, like bambu said. Or if you still don't have something reasonable, just get your real self there and chill for a couple weeks, practice the language, meet some fun local friends that can understand what you're looking for and hear what your new buddies have to say! Allow some time for trust to build -- A local might know a great place for you but may want to know if you're actually best for it.
Especially for long-term, surprising deals can open up when you get the right people to like you. And I still think gems are best seen in person.
