What payment gateways do you use? PayPal or Authorize.net?

Right now I have my clients paying through PayPal but I get hit with their transaction fee.

With Authorize.net, there is just a flat fee per month but I was wondering if there are also CC fees that get taken off by the merchant done by a percentage of every purchase your client makes?

BTW, is there any reason to allow both Paypal and Authorize?

Authorize.net is just the gateway, you still have to pay fees for the merchant account that is processing the charge. And yes, a reason to use both is in case some customers want to pay by Paypal and others want to pay with CC. Split test it though and see what works best for you.

How much are the fees? More than the 2.9% PayPal charges you?

Well if you have a PayPal biz account, you can accept PayPal or CC transfers.

It seems like using PayPal would be enough since the client has 2 ways to pay and I don't think they need a PayPal account to pay by CC through them. Why would you even need to use Authorize.net when your client already has both options here.

Generally the fees on a merchant account will be lower than the 2.9% + .30¢, which should answer both of your questions. You're also not exposing yourself to having 100% of your funds frozen if Paypal does what Paypal likes to do. However, it's also more of a pain in the ass to manage so you have to factor all that in and decide what's best for you.

I can't comment on their integration features but I have used them in the past and their interface as well as support is top notch. Really cool company and great product

Don't accept Paypal or CC if you are selling them leads. People can always do a chargeback or dispute the charge and fuck you over. Only take wire transfer.

While I understand the benefit to doing it this way to take away the risks, I can't imagine actually telling my clients that I only accept wire transfers. Isn't it a big pain in the ass to send one?

Do you know of any other companies (other than your own) that do it this way successfully?

We use Freshbooks with PayPal's Payments Pro and our own processor. It works for us as we have a number of clients that want to use PayPal, and others who want to use CC. And our merchant processor is owned by our bank, so batches go straight into our bank account.

Handy. Can't say enough about Freshbooks.

We use Beanstream which is merchant processor for TD bank here in Canada.

Only thing I can add is if you do $xxx, xxx a year in business, it's worth it to get a merchant account and hire coders to write hooks for it. Because then you can really bargain down the credit card fees.

That's my experience at least.

I use Freshbooks connected with Beanstream, a Vancouver based credit card processor similar to Authorize.net

Fucking awesome, never had an issue. Payments are processes lightning fast. Their support is awesome as well, no automated system or anything... straight to the agent.

Agree. They're awesome... except for 1 thing that they still refuse to implement: a full whitelabel solution where you can use your own domain name. I hate the fact that my clients see companyname.freshbooks.com when they receive my bills. I wish I could set it up so that it be companyname.com/payments or payments.companyname.com or something like that. I wish I could completely get rid of that freshbooks branding. I asked them many times through their support and forum, no dice.

Everyone in the lead-gen industry works on wire payments. It's a pain in the ass, but you know whats an even bigger pain in the ass? Having your buyer charge back that $15k payment they just made.

I believe we have talked on Skype though and you are dealing with 1 buyer that you know well. In that case CC payments should work fine.

Lead-gen brokers tend to demand wire transfer since they don't know each buyer that well.

Pester them to add stripe please. I use them and have but Im just one voice

switch to harvest and use stripe

For you guys looking for Stripe integration, why not use Wave?

Yea, Stripe is already an option in Freshbooks.

What I'm looking for most is being able to track payments out to sub contractors that are attached to the account, right now I just have to pay people and keep track of what hours they where paid in Excel. Pretty annoying.
