Why all affiliate network managers use AIM?!

That's interesting because the only people I know that use AIM are the ones I've met here. Everyone I know is on MSN and Skype.

Pretty much my experience as well. I never used AIM until I started working with networks as an advertiser a few years back, used MSN exclusively.

Do you have any real question? Use something like Adium or Trillian to keep multiple messengers + accounts and stfu. You guys have too much time on your hand to discuss stupid shit like this...

Don't be suck a fucking dick. The whole lot of you are being assholes. Too much time on our hands? As opposed to popping huge neck zits or sticking glass jars up our ass or ground up chickens or dickrolling the new guy? Whatever dude.

Unless something has changed in the last couple years Trillian always sucked ass. It never integrated with all the available features in the individual programs and whenever a change was made to any one of the messaging services it would stop working until a fix came out. I've never heard of Adium but unless they have some miracle product I'm going to guess it suffers from the same afflictions.

At least xentech made an effort at answering the question, and he's right to some extent. No one in Europe uses AIM. All the design and development people I have ever worked with use Skype and have headsets at the ready, the rest of society uses MSN.

What I don't agree with is this inability to change. It's only these two industries that seem to be stuck in the stone ages and unable to make the switch, which seems odd since they are ready to adapt at a moments notice to any other kind of situation in their businesses but continue to use the worst IM software on the market.

Trillian always sucked ass.

Wrong. Agreed it doesnt have all the jazz that other IMs have but it infact does its job perfectly - IMing people.

Atleast I dont have to load 6 different apps at the same time.

I was surprised when I saw IM'rs using AIM, I was like wtf! my kids don't even use that anymore! I have a business that imports some shit from asia & middleast, they are all 100% MSN as was I until I started IM.

I use adium.
And most americans have AIM, canadians always had MSN messenger.

atleast thats how it was whenever i wanted to try out for a team on counter-strike

AIM is so old skool. I use this:

Because spammers from back in the day used aim(omg free aol!!), first networks were setup around spammers, thus networks used aim too, and it became the standard

there's some history for you guys

It's like how Dirty Harry still used a 44 Mag revolver and all the other cops switched to 9mm. You wouldn't question Dirty Harry about his gun of choice, would you? Well would you punk?

That being said, I feel smarter after reading BigWill's post.

Actually, I think it's a perfectly acceptable question.

Why DO AMs all use AIM? Why do porn guys all use ICQ?

AIM is an antiquated messaging system from an antiquated ISP. Live and Skype are both far superior products yet I hardly see anyone here using them.

Why is that?

What makes AIM antiquated? Old yes, but that means people are used to it, and it dominates US messenger usage. All of the open source AIM libraries are well managed and updated so I don't see what the problem is.

Hey friends,

since gtalk integrated AIM many people use it in south east asia
and it has just become easier to communicate with the americans

and also many AM are already switching to skypeinstead of just aim
