Why did you choose to make money online?

I enjoy the volatility of Internet marketing. The technology is constantly changing and you need to find new ways to adapt.
I also love the concept of starting with nothing and building something that everyone uses. Viral marketing is where it's at. Why do the work when others do it for you? Give them an idea, and they will market it for you.

I was 12 years young and asked my dad to buy me new PlayStation 2 (then it was new) and he said that I should start saving money and buy it myself. Well, I knew that saving money would last forever so I choosed the one place where I can be older, the Internets. So, January 2007. was the month when I earned my first dollar, well $350...
It's really two different questions isn't it?
1) Why do you pursue money?
I wanted extra freedom. In my 20s I managed to build and piss away not one but two separate fortunes, because all I ever focused on was the short-term -- the thrill of making it and the pleasure of burning it up on doodads. When I had to start over the third time I realised that the thing that I liked the most about having a little money was freedom.
2) Why, specifically, online?
For me it's a no-brainer because it's portable and because of the passive revenue possibilities. It's like real estate that almost never breaks down, can be managed from anywhere in the world, and has a price barrier less than a couple of decent pairs of jeans.

I think I will have to blame Miss Paris Hilton for me getting online. If her sex tape wouldn't of hit and started making me money on a hobby website, I don't think I would be sitting here right now at quarter to 5AM writing a script for a site and making money. :S
There's definitely not a dull moment in this business. It's all about creativity in terms of traffic generation, business models, and content strategy.
because, growing up, i wanted $$ but my mom wouldnt let me work during the school year. so i started an internet business so she couldnt see and suddenly big checks were rolling in 
Make enough money and passive income to quit the corporate world asap. Then start working full time online and start working on humanity projects in 3rd world countries.
For me, it's all about the freedom, flexible hours and the fact I love the web. Working online is great for creative people who need plenty of spare time to work on their art projects but don't want to be the cliched dirt poor artist.
I quit my desk job (graphic designer) a few months ago which felt great and now I'm basically doing jack shit: playing wii, writing music and whoring out the myspace music profile. I'll be back to work on my own stuff soon, since my daily earnings are starting to suffer. :rasta:
