Anyone here work on widgets or applets? Hows that business going for you? What do you build, how do you build it, are you getting a good return for your development time spent? Are you finding it more cost effective than the time it'd take to build a unique website rather than an add-on or plugin to some other platform?

What's your thoughts on the risks involved in building something for a site that you don't even own?


Anyways, just a thread of discussion I haven't seen around here. Discuss.
 


I've been thinking about this for a while. Ever since I downloaded this nice Mac widget showing deals on the Apple.com store. Then I realized that it was all affiliate links and it was brilliant. So I made a widget for this one service and put in an affiliate link. It cost me like $50 and so far it hasn't paid off. If the site shut the service down too I'd be kinda screwed. But it was only $50 so it wasn't a big investment or anything.

I think it's a good way to get your affiliate links out there though.
