Get a Mac

I'm unsure as to what on earth having a mac would do - I already have a macbook, with linux on it. Oh, you must mean OSX.
Even accommodating you mistaking hardware and operating system, I'm still confused - if I want to block in and outbound communications on an application level, I'd still need additional software on OSX.
. I thought that was the stock answer regarding any computer question now a days. Just kidding.
Your best protection comes from hardware. Always browse from behind a properly configured router. As to software maybe check out kaspersky.
Edit. I have yet to have a problem w/ stock windows firewall. What is it not doing that your trying to do?
Ha, might be I raged too fast.
I agree, a hardware solution would be nice, but I'm just tweaking up my kids system. Want to do it well, but not spend. Balance? heh.
I haven't been able to get it to block applications running in compatibility mode consistently. Going to try out AVG (since that's on my desktop) this evening.
Avg is complete dog shit
I've got AVG on my windows install

Only one with a metro skin right nowAvast has always been my favo, but it breaks with nonstandard font sizes on 8

What he said up there ^^^ AVG is garbage. It will not protect you. Get Kaspersky.
WTF do you need a metro skin for? You want your AV to be an app? Just run the program like you normally would.
Because I have a 6 y/o learning to manage his own system![]()
Then delete all that shit and teach him to use that computer like a bawse. When he fucks it up show him how to format it and reinstall. Better he learn it now then be a dumbass and still fuck it up when he's 25.
This post is not intended to offend in any way shap or form. It's just cold hard truths
Oh, not offended, we do an hour of JS coding every week together (it's like pulling teeth some days). However, touch -is- the future, and I'd rather he learn logic and proper UX principals, than just logic.
I originally had him on Ubuntu, but there are stability issues, and trying to get kids (or anyone else) to use tech that breaks before they have a chance to get to get really familiar with it is a great way to turn them off from it entirely.
