I generally use Google Analytics to track stats. All you have to do for it is throw some code they give you into the <head> </head> section of the header file for your WP theme. Never used Statcounter so I can't even begin to say where to put the code. You may want to try Getting Started with StatCounter

Who is everyone using for hosting? I was in a hurry to stick mine up and went with GoDaddy (I know..I know...) and the freakin' site is slooooooooooooowww....

Anyone got any hosting they recommend? How is everyone fairing with Hostgator?

if you want managed...

currently:
my important sites go on a liquidweb vps
my ok sites go on a slhost vps (still a good host so far but doesnt have the rep liquidweb does)
my shittiest sites go on 1and1 shared hosting

you save almost 50% when you order 6 months at slhost so that would be my recommendation if you want a good value. go for liquidweb if you want quality and are willing to pay for it.

Anyone clue me in on those "ping lists" ?

::emp::

this is the list I use, it may need a update

Code:
http://api.moreover.com/RPC2
http://rpc.pingomatic.com/
http://www.bloglines.com/ping
http://ping.feedburner.com
http://rpc.technorati.com/rpc/ping
http://blogsearch.google.com/ping/RPC2
http://api.my.yahoo.com/RPC2
http://rpc.weblogs.com/RPC2
http://ping.weblogalot.com/rpc.php
http://api.feedster.com/ping
http://ping.syndic8.com/xmlrpc.php

Note to self: better communication needed. :anon.sml:

How do I use a list like that?

I know what a ping is and already figured out that a ping list would contain valuable sites to ping.

Now... how to do it with WP?

Thank you guys.

Emp, head to your wordpress admin panel then Options>Writing, all the way at the bottom you will see a text field that contains one lonely url rpc.pingomatic or some shit, just paste the urls you want to ping in this text field and save options.

Not overly hard to edit your template files to include analytics, but if anyone wants a plug-in I've been using this one and its worked great - just grab your analytics code and paste in the setup area and youre done.

OK, I have been running the Blog I want to use for the case study, see my sig, now I have been getting 25 - 30 visits a day then I started to get more active in forums and with my sig more visible my visits have jumped to about 90-100 a day, have not paid a cent for traffic. How do I get a better click through rate? in the 6 months I have made just over $45, I would be happy if I make enough to pay the server fees every two years, which looks like what I am on pace for but extra cash would be good. Does anyone have any suggestions for my site? I also just filtered out a sh*tload of ads too.

I use Axishost.com for all my non-adult sites. You can have unlimited domains and 20 mysql databases (so easily can have 20 wordpress sites) for only $6.00 a month. Fairly simple to use.

Thanks for your answers on the stats guys. I'm going to try and figure out where to put Statcounter code though as that's what's running on all my other sites.

Edit your main index.php file and insert the stat code right before the last </div>

For those of you that are interested, I am starting a thread that documents the development of a custom Wordpress theme from start to finish. If you want to start building custom WP themes from start to finish for this or any other project in the future, follow along, its going to be a slow ride, but you should have enough knowledge to slap together your own themes by the time we are done.

what can we do while we wait besides make daily posts? honestly this is a bit of a letdown after all the fanfare. i totally believe in personal stuff coming before any work so i don't begrudge jon at all. at some point in the original goal timeline was to attract organic traffic. should be doing stuff like submitting to free link directories selecting those with like pr4 or higher? do we try to do some like digg? don't really want to do things to mess up jon's ideas but who knows. my wife and i are really excited about this idea and don't want to lose momentum.

Any of the above could not hurt, id really like to see Jon follow through on this within the time frame he set, but in reality this is just not the way things work. Im sure you all have heard of the saying Shit happens, well try running a few forums and also trying to keep up with other day to day business stuff. I have let down my forum members before as far as deadlines go, but I always come through and 9 times out of ten it is because, one more important shit came up or two I just had to set everything down for a minuet and take a brake.

You are all smart enough to make money with your sites without this thread! start swapping link or buying links, submit to social networking sites, post on other forums, pay for traffic, fuck do it all if you can....

There is enough information on this forum alone to make you bank! If your someone that is looking for a free handout, maybe you should standing in the free cheese line at your local CEO instead of posting here, it doesnt matter what the fuck Jon or anyone else reveals in this thread, your still going to have to work to get it, there are NO freebies in this world, unless your looking for cheese and food stamps!

If some people are having a hard time getting their sites rolling i would suggest opening up now, dont be shy! If you cant get a site up off the ground, dont worry about keeping your niche secret, you should be worried about more important things.

Fuck it we will move on until Jon decides to throw in his advice and knowledge! So if your struggling, dont be a bitch, post up and let other people help you out, its the only way to get ahead and actually learn something.

Well hell... guess I missed out. I just found this forum TODAY. I'm a noob here but not to affiliate marketing or adsense sites BTW. :rasta:

This case study is dead in the water it appears

Im speaking without really knowing, but I would say that no its not dead in the water, but from the looks of things it isnt going to move along as fast as many people expected, which is why I made my last post, everyone is so anxious to get started and move forward, but it doesnt seem like they have enough drive to make progress and work together in the mean time. Its almost as if they are waiting for Jon to wave his magic wand or something.
