kay. I have been having the blues for a few days with major back pains. today I get back from the doctor who says I strained some muscle around my pelvis and between my butt muscles or something like that...anyway I got some prescribed dope for my pain but when I asked about getting fitted for a chair they were baffled.

So does anybody here use a good 24 hour work chair? What type of chair do you suggest? Any brands or whatever you got I need. If you're not investing in a good chair DO IT before you're all hung over and can barely tie your own shoes! I've been sitting in piss poor chairs and I can tell you 10-16 hours a day wil lcatch you eventually EVEN if you are a workout freak and stay in a gym!!!

I don't know who's the best and all the 24 hour chairs cost high $XXX low $XXXX but I have no idea who is the best or who to choose any help would be appreciated fam...

I have major pain from my chair because I slouch. But I suppose it only cost me $100, it is all good now :)

I'm sitting on a wooden dining room chair. Have to wait until I move in May to get my desk/desk chair back :(

I got my adjustable ergonomic chair years ago. No idea on the brand. Just make sure its got lumbar support, adjustable (or removable) armrests, forward/backward, height, and maybe even tilt. Look for OSHA's website on ergomics.. they have some good stuff.

If I didn't have an ergo keyboard and chair at the right height, I would be in very serious pain right now. About 6 months ago, before I got the ergo keyboard I honestly thought I would be finished before 2007 rolled around. That was my hands, but I imagine the same could be said of your back. The most critical thing is to change the position and pressure points from what your are at now.

I sit on a giant inflatable ball. No back, so I train my back all day just sitting. Its supposed to train "the core"-muscles really well.
It takes some getting use to, but after a month, I wouldn't sit on anything else at my workstation.

nis, I just a quick search on giant inflatable balls (typing that looks very odd..) and I didnt find much in the way of ones made to exercise core muscle, I mostly found "sports balls" that were like 5 ft in diameter.. Got a link?

Damn, I thought I was going to be the first to say that!

Anyway, I'm using a pilates ball as well and it's so cool it's funny. I used to use a decent office chair, but after seeing the ball being mentioned on the net so many times, I got one and never turned back.

The funny thing about it is summarized perfectly in this quote I found on metafilter:

Yep - I use one at work and have done for a good 18 months now. No issues with HR whatsoever, and 3 of my colleagues have also converted, all of us favoring a $20 exercise ball over a $500 Herman Miller Mirra chair.

It did seem strange at first and I was afraid I'll die a lame death, smashing my head on the edge of the bed when the ball explodes under me, but it's been a good couple of months now without any problems.

And I'm 6'1", 220lbs and have the cheapest ball (less than $20), so most of you skinny bastards shouldn't have any issues with it either.

I have to get an ergonomic chair. The chair I have doesn't have a height adjustment, and I didn't notice that when I bought it. It absolutely kills my back. I was going to buy an aeron, but I'm going to try that pilates ball, it's worth a shot.

The only chair worth buying...an Aeron

health professionals actually advice people to vary their seating.

So get a good, comfy chair with good armrests, get an exercise ball, maybe even another, cheap chair.

Vary during the day.

Don't be surprised if the ball gives you sore muscles in the back at first. It is supposed to exercize the lower back muscles, because you have to shft your weight around a lot.

Think of joining a gym. Normally helps.

emp, I have a weight bench here at home with a squat rack, etc.

I was just curious if it would be worthwhile to throw in the exercise ball since I spend so much time sitting around, its only going to get worse, I start a new job on Monday as a web-designer so that will be another 8 hours of sitting at a desk.

I've got a $5 Goodwill special. No kidding. My wife went to Goodwill one, found it and bought. I love it! Just a molded seat with about 1" of foam. Doesn't swivel, rock, go up and down or anything, just a good seat.

whats so great about this metal cheap looking chair?

It's hardly cheap. Around $1,000 or so new. And the ergonomics are phenomenal. If you sit at a desk for 12+ hours for a few years, you'll definitely appreciate it. But for now, I think I hear the bell ringing so you'll probably have to go in from recess now. Buh-bye.
