I remember seeing this as a kid, just kinda stumbled onto it again today. Still just as shocking.

By far. The worst hockey injury and scariest too I've ever seen. He remained conscious throughout the entire thing too, so he was fully aware as to what had happened and how quickly he would have died.

Goalie gets rammed.. skates first

omg...he lived right? ...i hate this kind of clips ...i always feel that some kind of similar if not worse it'll happen to me too.

Holy fuck! Just watching him grip his throat gives me chills. I bet he thought he was a dead man.

I played ice hockey for 5 years and I've witnessed some pretty brutal injuries, but I've never seen anything near as bad as that.

wear a neck guard kids...

This is actually the reason why all of the goalies started to wear the plastic neck guards and the why the pads manufacturers included foam neck guards in all the the chest and shoulder pads for goalies.

Yes. He is still alive. He was in that interview.

The only reason he lived was because of the quick action of his trainers. From what I remember reading he was seconds away from death.

i knew there was a reason i never played hockey. oh yeah, it was because i can't ice skate.

Yeah old clip Jon, but something that needs visiting now and then. Kinda scary the kinds of injuries that happen on the ice. Skates rarely cut people (although "hfgreg" cut my wrist last game with his coming over the boards), but pucks and high sticks do alot of damage often. It is no suprise that the half-shields are becoming so popular to help prevent some of these.

Ok...time for a nap before tonight's game...

Heck, I have seen quite a few ambulance-requiring injuries in no-contact women's hockey. Nothing bloody, but spinal injuries and whatnot.

I went to high school with Travis Roy - his accident was pretty crazy:

In 1995, Roy was a highly regarded freshman out of Tabor Academy joining the defending national champion Terriers. In BU’s first game of the season against the University of North Dakota, Roy skated out for his first shift with the scarlet and white. Eleven seconds later, his career was over after he lost his balance trying to throw a check and went headfirst into the Walter Brown boards. He was instantly paralyzed.
It just happens so fast...
