I'm having to cook for myself on a regular basis now that Im not at college on a meal plan anymore. What are some good, but easy meals to make? I'm looking to freshen up my 'menu' a little bit haha

Pasta is always easy. Cook some pasta, during the same time throw a diced onion and vegetables of your choice into a pan with hot oil.

Fry for a bit, add cream, pepper, salt.

Should be done in about the 20 minutes it takes the pasta (10 min for water to boi+ 10 for the pasta)

::emp::

I'd consider myself a pretty good cook.

Check out the signature for some good ideas (shameless plug).

One VERY easy and delicious way to cook steak (make sure you get a decent cut). Pre-heat oven to 400 degrees. Put olive oil in a pan and experiment by putting in some spices you like. Turn the burner heat on as hot as it gets until the olive oil starts smoking. Drop in the steak and let cook for 45 seconds or so.... until each side is golden brown. Put it in the oven for about 15-20 minutes until it is cooked through how you desire.

If you like your steak a little red, this is a GREAT way to cook it as you can get it nearly perfect every time - just like the restaurants serve. It looks amazing, too.

If you want to try this same exact method with suggested ingredients and a little more complication... check out the winner of our December contest. This dish was AWESOME. Beef Tenderloin with Sweet Ginger-Shiitake Brown Butter - ChefClub.net

Get a Rachel Ray cook book(express lane meals is my fav). I'm a damn wanna be chef and i love her books. Some shit is super easy to throw together but theres some more complicated shit if your feeling like somethin extra. Last night i made sweet soy-glazed chicken with carrot-sesame noodles. Sooooo good. She has some really good soups too which are good to make cause if you mamke a big pot itll last a couple days.

Yeah Racheal Ray makes some good food, I've always considered myself a good cook and the easiest thing to make is some t-bone steak on the BBQ, oh so good, just toss the BBQ on medium, put the steak on their for 3 minutes a side then toss your spices on one side, flip for another 2 minutes a side and your all done.

When it comes to steak, I always prepare mine like this:
Cheap burboun, a little olive oil, Uncle Chris' Gourmet Steak Seasoning (Texas thing). Season it up and let it sit at room temp in the burboun for an hour, never longer because it will carmalize, and throw it on the grill. THAT'S how to make a tasty steak.

I agree, nothing beats the grill. But, it's super cold where I am so I try to keep inside :D

Stirfry is always easy as heck, too. Cut up chicken breasts and marinate in teriyaki or soy sauce or something similar for a few hours.

Throw them in a large pan with veggies like brocolli, mushrooms, peppers, onions, baby corn, water chesnuts... serve with rice and you're golden.

Just don't do what I usually do, which is to put something on the stove, and then go off and start doing something on the computer (like reading WF), and next thing I know I've burned whatever I was trying to cook.

Heres the poor mans thanksgiving dinner:

Get slided cold cut turkey a loaf of bread, turkey gravy and stove top stuffing.

Make the stuffing, its very easy. heat the gravy

Lay the bread down put stuffing on top, then the turkey and smother in gravy.

Takes like 5 minutes to make.

once you get good at this, you maybe come over and cook for the misses and me and i'll let you come in noon the next day ...

Have you tried Shake n Bake? I use the "extra crispy" version for chicken and pork chops. Bake at 400 degrees for 20 minutes, and you're done.

Frozen vegetables are good too. Take the bag out, follow the directions, and you'll have a good meal with side dishes in no time.

Good luck! :banana_sml:

Tonight I made pizza-dillas. its basically a pizza put into a quesadilla. Just lay down a tortilla on the pan. Throw on sliced motzerela, a layer of diced fire roasted tomatoes, and then some basil and another tortilla. Super easy but with a sophisticated taste

Shake n Bake! That stuff is delicious.

I'm pretty good at burgers, but if I had to rate myself as a cook... B-

I'm a chef. Been doing it the last 7 years. After cooking gourmet meals for unappreciative fucks all day, the last thing I want to think about is cooking when I get home. You'd be surprised how many rich idiots don't know how to properly order a steak. "Oh, I thought medium meant no pink in the middle. Tell the chef to recook this becuase it's wrong." I get that at least 20 times a day. I guess you really can't buy intelligence or class.

Anyway, if you want something cheap and easy, any kind of pasta will do, and you can pretty much add any kind of meat or vegetable you want to it. Cover it with enough red or white sauce and it will taste just fine. Get a piece of bread, butter it, add some garlic salt and toast it. Bam. Poor man's Garlic bread to go along with your crappy pasta. Enjoy. Haha

I am a master at certain things in the kitchen such as:

Boiling Water
Microwaving Pizza
Toasting Waffles

However, when I get really creative... I can make a mean Mongolian Beef with Scallions.

Cooking, like most things I enjoy, I get complimented on. I'm not sure if I'd be considered good.

Trigatch4-nice cooking forum!

Due to time and cooking for residents and staff at group homes, I've gotten good at taking prepared foods and doctoring them up.

Add some tomato paste, seasoning, ground beef, and some Italian sausage to jar or can sauces.

Cook up some Chicken breasts in olive oil, garlic, salt & pepper. Mix with sauted mushrooms and onions and add to jar Alfredo sauce.

A couple bullion cubes added to most sauces improves taste.

We always add a teaspoon of vanilla to box cake mixes.

I have the skills to make everything from homemade bread to homemade noodles from scratch, but don't always have the time. I love to cook, though. I'm happy cooking for the kids when they visit and when they invite friends over to eat. I've traded work on my car and the house for homemade dinners!
