Yeah I only come back to check for any useful business tidbits but then find myself wasting precious minutes that will never come back reading the rantings of some guy who thinks its clever to call Obama "Obomba".
3d printing stock went up 6% after the speech. Does anybody know which materials can be used in 3d printing that could replace some of the equipment? I saw that in gun enthusiasts thread it didn't prove of much use. Is it still in plastic play dough phase?

I'm assuming that Obama supports 3d printing so that he can easily get his sheeple to create anti-gun devices in their homes. Rather than sending the police round to collect everyones guns, he can therefore have the people do it themselves with their clever gun collection devices, whatever they may entail.
It's the only logical explanation.
Oh, either that, or it's a conspiracy and he's going to use 3d printers to take down the empire state building and blame it on the latest terrorist: Osama Bin Liner, Bin Laden's long lost cousin.

3d printers are revolutionary and will destroy manufacturing in China and other countries that have done well in the past few years due to cheap labor.

It will be interesting to see how this changes when they realize what a nightmare 3D printing is going to be for anyone with a simple design patent. It's going to take piracy to a whole new level...and I doubt there's anything they can do to stop it.
That's probably why they want to get heavy into regulation before it becomes affordable and popular.
I simply don't see how they can do it. What are they going to do, impose mandatory DRM on it? Good luck getting the open source projects to pick that up. Hell, there's already torrents on the Pirate Bay for physical objects. There's also .onion sites hosting designs.
The government hasn't figured out how to close Pandora's box for damn near anything else. Can't see this as being different. I'm sure they'll try...but yeah.
Yeah, but if he was against 3D printing instead of embracing it, you'd be on here right now screaming about how Obama hates technology and is killing innovation in the US.
What would you like him to do? Halt all human technological innovation? That's basically the only way you're going to keep unskilled laborers employed. It's no longer 1960, so just being able to use a shovel isn't enough to get a decent job anymore.
