I really don't know what to say. Unbelievable.

BBC News - S Korea child 'starves as parents raise virtual baby'

A South Korean couple who were addicted to the internet let their three-month-old baby starve to death while raising a virtual daughter online, police said. The pair fed their own premature baby just once a day in between 12-hour stretches at an internet cafe, the official Yonhap news agency reported.

Police officer Chung Jin-won told Yonhap they "lost their will to live a normal life" after losing their jobs. He said they "indulged themselves online" to escape from reality.

The 41-year-old father and his 25-year-old wife were arrested in the city of Suweon, south of Seoul, earlier this week, five months after they reported the death of their baby. An autopsy showed her death was caused by a long period of malnutrition.

The couple had become obsessed with nurturing a virtual girl called Anima in the popular role-playing game Prius Online, police said on Friday. The game enables players to interact with Anima and as they do so, help her to recover her lost memory and develop emotions.

LOL @ them for not having a computer at home. They're birds.

But yeah, fuck the parents, they'll get plenty of time to think in jail.

As long as the jail offers internet access in the library, I don't think they'll even notice. Sad.

Sounds like getting fed once a day and being "virtually" cared for is exactly what they can expect in a korean prison... they'll certainly be able to escape from the reality of their worthless lives there.

Jeez what happend to people. Back when i was growing up we starve our pets for our tamagotchi's. Things sure have changed since i was a kid.

haha

It's actually quite sad to see all the kids in Asian countries (especially China) get stuck on computers 24/7. Since games,chat and other interwebs give them an escape from the harsh daily jobs/school.

All kids do is talk about the lastest anime cartoon, chaning hair styles or raising their MMO character level in China. Sad as hell.

Sometimes I wonder if China's new generation is going to be like Japan's...

I thought having a computer game (starcraft) as your national pastime and having a TV channel dedicated to it was already bad... killing your kids over a game just made South Korea lower...

@Mortal

wonder how people can do that. hopefully your post will be like an eye opener for many irresponsible parents out there
