I've recently experienced stronger pains in my wrist when using the mouse. I think this may be carpel tunnel syndrome which comes with extended use of the mouse.

I bought a new mouse mat with a gel padding thing to rest my wrist on while I'm using the mouse, but it is doing little to help alleviate the problem.

Does anyone else have this problem and are you using any special ergonomic mouse or wrist rest to solve this annoying issue?

i use an ergo pad and it's working pretty well for me.

if you really wanna avoid carpel tunnel get in the gym and do some wrist exercises. there are plenty of them out there, like wrist curls.

Yeah I actually do weights and use a powerball pretty often too. I dunno its not serious but it is noticeable enough to get me to flex my wrists every 5 minutes.

i've got it something nasty in my right wrist.. to the point where i went and bought one of those 'perfect pushup machine' things because normal pushups were making my wrist throb. when bending my wrist down.. theres a noticable lump.. and when it's swollen, it looks pretty bad.
ahh, the sacrifices we make for copious amounts of money ;x

i got that too... its to a point that my hand goes numb sometimes and i have to do the wrist exercises. i dont think i need surgery and hopefully you dont either... but i have this "wrist guard" glove that has a sand bag like area where the wrist bends to keep it level. Might be something to look into as well.

I thought power users were big keyboard shortcut users. I had a young nephew shame me into learning the keyboard years ago. I try hard to avoid the mouse.

In the big scheme of things the keyboard is probably as big a wrist killer as the mouse.

I have the ring finger of my left hand that tends to lock in the curled position, especially in the morning.

Search this has been talked about in long threads. And welcome to long days on the computer.

I've had some numbness above my wrist like on my arm recently, went to the doc and she said it was probably strained. The numbness is slowly going away though. Need to grab a better mouse pad.

Are you sure that's not a fracture? Have you dropped recently or any time in the past that you can recall?

I'm starting to see some problems with my wrist too. I figured it was only a matter of time between bashing away on drumsets, fiddling away on guitars, and regularly putting in 6+ hour computer days since age 12. My strategy so far has been to ignore all pain and numbness. Might have to reevaluate that soon.

What, I thought we were talking about your wrist here not your pinky. When I broke my wrist I could not even do 1 push up because of the pain..

We're talking about CT. One of the symptoms is numbness in your fingers/hand.. my pinky / ringfinger go numb for days at a time.

I've got carpal tunnel in both hands, right one had the surgery and I don't have any problems. Left still gives me problems. I think I'm going to get it cut later this year.

Just see your doc and they'll do some simple tests to determine if it's CT. My favorite was when the doctor had me hold both hands out, then wrapped his fingers around my wrists and pushed on the soft part. HOLY SHIT! I almost punched him! Not fun, but a simple test to check for CT.

At least the surgery is quick, easy and outpatient. I was awake and talking to the surgeon when they did mine. Bier block the arm, cut, cut, done. Total time was less than 30 minutes. Back to work on Monday (had a 9 - 5 back then).

Nuance - Dragon NaturallySpeaking 9

look for it in torrent, there are cracked version...

it is not prefect, but not bad either..i have big time accent but it do a ok job. I use it for IM or taking note (not good enough for writing sth serious..but it could be my bad English)

You need to take your hands off your keyboard and mouse and move them around. when im reading ill use my left hand and keyboard to scroll and set my hand on my lap. Or flat on my desk. I stretch my fingers and hands constantly.

I had a problem with carpel about 9 years ago, started moving my hands around like this and never had the problem since.

when you're typing or using the mouse to click, keep your hands up in the air instead of laying it down on the keyboard to type. I type alot and never had this problem ... or you can use Dragon Natural Speaking, which is a speak recongination software

My pinkies go numb and wrists get sore. However I bought a Microsoft split ergo keyboard and that really really helped.

Also pay attention to how you hold the mouse. You shouldn't grip it hard, just loosely in your hand. Move the mouse by moving your elbow and not turning your wrist from side to side. IIRC, performing repetitive task while holding your wirst in a bent angle is the one of the primary causes of CT.
